The island is good for relaxation and water sports but lacks night life and younger adults could find it boring. We found it good for eating out and golf. It is refreshing to go to a resort that has not been spoilt by commercialism

The waters in Langkawi are beautifully warm and the beach at Pentai Tengah is considered one of the best.... true. Although, beware of jellyfish as there are no signs at Langkawi Village Resort to warn you of the dangers and as the water is "murky" due to the constant swell and fine coral sand being churned up you will not see approaching danger until it is too late.
For snorkelling your only real option is to visit the Palau Payar Marine Park. An enjoyable day out with reasonable snorkelling although be prepared for the amount of debris floating around.... that scratchy/nippy feeling on you leg could equally be a crisp packet as a small grouper checking out the food possibilities!!! Scuba diving is offered here, if you are a serious and experienced diver you will probably know better than to bother as there is no great variety and the visibility is relatively poor.

There is very little in Kuah. The beaches are absolutely useless. It is very cheap but very little happens there and I would not stay there again. It is worth knowing perhaps that full fare tickets from Langkawi to Penang by air cost only £9 single with MAS.

Langkawi's shopping and other man-made attractions are a waste of time. By far the greatest charm is its long white peaceful beaches and mountain streams. But the emergence of Jet Skis is threatening to end this tranquility. Should they become popular on Cenang or Tengah beaches, there will no longer be any reason to travel to this destination. Go now!

Kuah is nice shopping area, not good for longer stayings because there is no nice beach.
They have nice restaurants over there and some good shopping centers. But it is all a long way from this hotel, because it is outside.

Langkawi is a great place. 4-6 days is plenty of time to spend there. Not much to do outside of relaxing in the sun.

Langkawi is, as yet, still an unspoilt series of Islands but (horror of horrors!) the Government has plans to spoil it all by developing it as their main holiday destination. It is essential to hire a bike or car to have the freedom to see as much of this fascinating place as one can in the time available. There are tours available, but we did not try them. People are extremely friendly. There is an excellent choice of food at great prices provided one does get out and about.

Stayed at Lanai Langkawi Beach Resort, The - Langkawi, Malaysia.

We didn't like the area where the Lanai was situated. It was isolated if you didn't have transportation and there were'nt any good restaurants nearby. The Lanai was not a resort! A resort has many activities available to guests at the hotel or on the beach and the Lanai did not.
