Singapore's a bore but if you have to go there for business, then this is an ideal place to stay.

I was only in Singapore for one day so I didn't have a lot of time for sight seeing. However, I visited the History Museum which I thought had a very good collection. I also visited Raffles Hotel because it is so famous, but I wasn't overly impressed because it seemed too touristy with too many shops.

A big surprise was the difficulty in getting taxis - not just at peak hours and not just at hotels. One wait was nearly 40 minutes at a hot taxi stand, while cab after cab came through "on call" to passengers who had mobile phones and could order a car. Tourists are generally not so well equipped and if the mood in the queue was anything to go by, many are distinctly unimpressed with this "service". Singapore is justifiably proud of many aspects of its public transport system; taxis are not one of those aspects.
Travellers looking for excellent low-priced local food should definitely make for Kopi Tiam, a hawker centre in the basement of the Meridian Hotel on Orchard Road. Very good food in a "local" environment (despite the location) and unbeatable value.
Interested in animals or not, the Night Safari is highly recommended - do the walks, not just the train ride. Thoroughly deserving of its tourism award.

Singapore has very little to do. Everything is over-rated for tourists.

Singapore is easy to travel around by public transport. The brochure descriptions of many tourist attractions are completely overstated and many of them are less than well-maintained with many promised attractions not functioning.

I'm afraid tours booked through the internet via Singapore Sightseeing were not at all organised. They did not contact us with details even after we rang them several times, as a result we were always late for tours and still to have to pay tour. Next time I'll think I'll book and pay for the tours once I get to the hotel.
Area maps well supplied, only problem we had was with taxi that took us to airport. The meter read $13.60 and then he put it up to $18.60 (because we booked him via phone) and then he insisted that we pay him $21.70, when I asked him why so much he stated speaking very loudly in his own language. When I asked him again to explain and that I would pay him if he explained why the meter read $13.60 and I was prepared to pay him another $5.00 for booking fee but why another $3.30, he again yelled this time in his own language. I told him I would get the airport officals if he did not speak to me in English. He was very rude and told us he would take us back to the hotel and to pay nothing. We told him we had a flight to catch I would only give him the $20.00 and that was all I was prepared to give , this he took. The receipt he gave me was for Sngapore Taxi, Taxi no SH 4112, 31.3.01. Also I booked this taxi for 6.00am (because concierge told us it would be cheaper) but taxi was there at 5.45am. I also checked with information in airport and they told me only to pay an extra 3 to 5 $ more for booking fee on top of meter price.

Sentosa is fantastic but damn expensive. Take an umbrella because it rained almost everyday. Go to the Meridien Shopping Centre near Orchard road and enjoy some cheap but great food. The Night safari was a blast. We used the trains and bus and getting around in Singapore was easy.

The Jurong Bird Park is superb. We took the MRT and it was an easy trip. We took a tour of the city which pointed out the highlights of Singapore. Not enough time was allotted for the orchid park. The restuarants are numerous and all of them very good. I especially liked the bakery and restuarant at the corner of Seah street in the Raffles complex. We did not have a bad meal while in Singapore. My only complaint is the weather. It was extremely hot and I found it hard to do too much during the day. Some places were kept too cold with the air conditioner. The inside and outside temps were too great. The Singapore residents were very helpful and went out of their way to assist us with directions.

Singapore is a reasonably expensive destination. Better value is available in areas such as Malaysia and Thailand.
