Stayed at Bayview Beach Resort - Penang, Malaysia.

The hotel is the last on a strip of many, and it is perhaps a 5-10 minute walk to the night market and quite a few good restaurants. We would highly recommend "Jasmine's Kitchen", and there are many other great spots. We tended to choose the ones that were more reasonably priced less flashy and had terrific meals. The walk to this area from the hotel is along a busy road with narrow "sidewalk" which is fine for adults, but perhaps a bit of a concern with children. In terms of the beach, it is not very wide and there were many jellyfish warnings around--so no one seemed to be swimming at all along the entire northern part of Penang's beaches.

Easy going on Lang Kawi! We will come back as soon as possible.
Beach area is a little dirty.
People are helpful and friendly.

The beach tends to be overrated and was probably mediocre with coarse sand, and was narrow and steep. Being at the end of Batu Ferringhi, one will have to do a relatively lenghty walk to take in all of the night market. Easily accessible transportation (public and hotel) into Georgetown. Taxi prices tend to be higher in Penang than other Asian destinations, especially between late evening and 7:00 AM when a 50% surcharge is applied to the regular fare.

Stayed at Casa Del Mar - Langkawi, Malaysia.

I thought Langkawi was beautiful but not enough care is being taken with rubbish disposal and recycling. It was very disappointing to see such a beautiful place being treated as a rubbish dump.

Stayed at Corus hotel Kuala Lumpur - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
|
We took a taxi from the hotel to Batu Caves and it cost us only 12 ringgit, though we had to pay 20 on the return trip as the handful of drivers waiting at the car park refused to use their meters. Be careful at the caves, my wife was given some bananas to feed the monkeys and just when we thought there were none around, one suddenly descended from the top of the hill and literally swiped them from her hands!

Stayed at Langkawi Village Resort - Langkawi, Malaysia.

Langkawi is not our favorite place. We got bothered very much by the smell of the sullage. Even when you have dinner in a restaurant the smell can be abominable.
There is also not much shadow at the beach where you are protected by the sun.

Stayed at Grand Continental Kuching - Kuching, Malaysia.

Kuching is a pleasant city to visit. If you go to Semenggok, where orangutangs are rehabilit-
ed,donīt go with an agency for RM40,when you
can take a bus for RM3.The only thing is that
you have to walk 1,5 km. Donīt miss the Cat
Museum. Itīs a museum youīll probably canīt see
anywhere else in the world. Bako National Park
is a must. Many trails in the rainforest. Beware
of the leeches. Donīt miss Sarawak Museum. A good
place a rainy day. Green Hill Corner is a good
place to eat noodles for RM3. Nice staff.

Stayed at Capitol, Hotel - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

KL city is best explored on foot. Places on your must go list : Petronas Twin Towers, Jalan Petaling, Jalan Bukit Bintang and Jalan Alor. Anyone who leaves KL without tasting the famous dish - Fried Noodles in black sauce - will live to regret it. However, I would like to caution everyone about the atrocious KL traffic. The city is also very dusty and noisy because of the number of projects being done.

Stayed at Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort - Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.

Would not recommend the water-village tour. Very dirty up-close with lots of trash thrown in the water. A definite turn-off.

Stayed at Ferringhi Beach Hotel, Penang - Penang, Malaysia.
|
2-3 days can be spent leisurely at Penang. Places worth seeing are Golden Sands beach, Kek Lok Si Pagoda, Wat Chayamangkalaram, Penang Hill, Burmese temple. Penang has a lot of beautiful Buddist temples.
One has to be careful when taking a taxi. The drivers charge exhorbitant prices. Bargaining is a must.
For good Indian food, you can visit Restaurant Kaliamman's at Penang Street, Little India. I want to stress on the Manager of the Hotel (Vanita & and an elderly gentleman), who went out of their way to drop us to the Ferry Terminal when we were almost running out of time.
