Stayed at Melia Kuala Lumpur - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
|
The location of the hotel is quite good as it is near LRT station and suria KLCC. I only visited shopping centres such as Sungei Wang, Suria KLCC, SOGO. I also went to Mimies Wonderland (near Serdang station) which is already out of KL. The only thing i don't like is the taxi drivers as they like to charge very expensive taxi fares.

Stayed at Concorde Hotel Kuala Lumpur - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

I organized the trip myself going about in taxis and travelling to and fro from Singapore by bus. It was a good experience.
The only thing lacking was that there should be some sort of facility for helping out with car rentals during public holidays! We wanted to rent a car but could not find a single one on sunday or HariRaya.

Stayed at Pulai Desaru Beach, The - Desaru, Malaysia.
|
The hotel is easy to locate. We took a short trip further east to Sungei Renggit for lunch. The seafood was very nice and we also treated ourselves with Malaysia's most favourite produce - durian.
Need to inform potential guests of monsoon period during which the beach may not be safe for swimming but recommend other suitable activities which guests can look forward to during the season.
Should hightlight some good attractions to guests early so that they can include them in the plan. Only learn about the visit to fruit farm from the activity desk when we arrive.

Stayed at Pangkor Island Beach Resort - Perak, Malaysia.

The resort was more family oriented that was suitable for us. A bit too noisy (too many children).
Poorly arranged trip back to to the mainland!

Stayed at Swiss Garden Hotel, Kuala Lumpur - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
|
One of the best and worst things about the hotel is its location. It is very close to Chinatown, which I didn't have time to visit, and Bukit Bintang, where most of the shopping malls are.
The problem with Swiss Garden's location is it is along this wide road where there are no pedestrian lanes, no overpasses for people to cross. It can be exciting to try to cross the road to get to Bukit Bintang, but it is definitely not for weak hearted, and those who can't run.

Stayed at Pulai Desaru Beach, The - Desaru, Malaysia.

I wouldn't go to Desaru again. Many hotels in that area have closed down, the beaches aren't great and even if you have a car there's nothing much to do there. However it's like a 2 hour drive from Singapore so it's fine if/ when you have a car filled with kids. Malaysia has better beaches to offer. I wouldn't waste my time in Desaru again.

Stayed at Maya, Hotel - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

We took the sunseekers' package but was surprised that the driver was going to take us on a 2 hour-city tour before sending us to Sunway Lagoon. Thankfully we managed to get out of that. Otherwise we would have been very displeased about wasting 2 hours going round KL in a van. This city tour was not stated in the website and if you are not keen on City Tour... be warned!

Stayed at Allson Genesis Hotel - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

When travelling to KL remember your umbrella! We arrived from a bus from Singapore into a huge Monsoon Storm. We had two umbrellas and both of them broke it was so strong. The locals where good enough to help us out and grab a taxi for us! We visited Chinatown, Little India and went to Central Market which was a hightlight to the trip.

Stayed at Pangkor Island Beach Resort - Perak, Malaysia.
|
The first few hours were spent in the outdoor pool that was clean and beckoning. We basked in the sun and enjoyed a couple a heneiken at the pool bar. Clayte said he was going to send some pictures of the beautiful setting to his mates at home.
We had his bithday dinner at the hornbill restaurant - It should be the only restaurant in the resort but with a private beach, we think we could work with less food options. We ordered a bottle of white wine, Clayte had the pangkor snapper that you must definitely try if you visit, it was, trust me, marvellous. He enjoyed it tremendously. I had a malay rice set with meat on skewer and crackers etc. It was normal. The meal set us back by Rm183 but we thought for a birthday romantic dinner by the beach front, it was worth it.
Next day was breakfast and walks along the beach, more pool drinks. We didn't do much this time but Clayte did water skiing last time and I think it cost Rm80 then.
If you are planning to visit there, take this little tip from us.
Close your balcony doors and front room doors. The monkeys there are so clever. Last time we visited, they attacked our fridge, took some fruits we put in and also ravished the packets of peanuts. We had to pay for the peanuts but thankfully we stopped them in time before they went on a drinking session on us :)
I think resort is alright for the money we paid. The final bill came up to Rm727.60 because Clayte made a long distance call the was charged at 207.90. Phone bills are crazy at hotels all the time. There are however, other budget options on the island too.

Stayed at Legend Resort,The - Kuantan, Malaysia.
|
The drive up to Kuantan is much better than it used to be but with the upgrading of the highway, there are plenty of places with temporary surfaces. When the highway is completed, it should be a wonderful drive.
I haven't been to Kuantan for almost 20 years and the beaches are still fabulous with some surf. Generally the beaches are very clean but I would recommend wearing surf shoes to protect your feet as there is alot of sharp coral and shells to flay your soles.
There is a wonderful seafood restaurant just on the outskirts of Kuantan, heading towards Kuala Trengganu and the resorts, called Pak Soo. It reminds me of the seafood places of my childhood along Pasir Panjang.
