Macau overall is a great place. The bus service is excellent and a great way to get around and see the islands inexexpensively. The Maritime Museum is superb.
A helpful note. At the Macau Museum / Fortress it would be helpful to people who have bad legs to have better signs as to how to get the Fortress. The current signs means you have to climb stairs. But you can do it via the Macau Museum escalator as well. There is no sign telling you this.

Low cost and efficient public transport ($2.50 (HKD/patacas) agood way to sight see aound Macau, but beware, most buses do circular routes rather than staight back and forth. Also beware, the locals regard the Hong Kong dollar and the Macau Pataca as interchangeable so you can miss out by paying for your meals in HK$ and getting your change in patacas! i guess everyione is entitled to make a living, though!
Enjoyed the 5 day stay exploring the back street shops and visiting thePortugese colonial sites.

Macau is quickly loosing its charm but dumping its good chinese "folks culture" like street hawkers, open air macanese barbucue to give way to souless mimickry of westernized "stock architectures".

Macau is good place to visit to gambling. But seems not good for sightseeing and shopping. My girlfried seems boring.

The Hac Sa beach was not particularly appealing due to a black sludge on the sand. It was pleasant enough to walk on to go to Fernando's Restaurant but I made a point of keeping clear of the water and the sludge. Macau made for an interesting walking tour if you have got the energy to climb the hills to get to the best view points.

Macau is slowly being strangled by idiotic and half-arsed developers. The new Macau Tower is as incongrouous as you would expect from a huge concrete ugly sister of Toronto's CN Tower in a lovely quaint colonial backwater. Also some of the other developments have been abandoned leaving that building-site style Chinese cities seem so enamoured with. The food is still good, and the wine cheap and plentiful. The Wine Museum is great if you are an expert on Portugese wine, the Macau Grand Prix Museum is mildly diverting, but the best thing is just to wander the old backstreets, quiet and quite European.

Macao is a nice town with huge architectural differences for this part of the world. It is nice to stop there on your trip to Hong Kong for a day or two, but not more than that. There are nice destinations to go to, but if you go only for the sightseeing you might find it difficult to stay there longer then two days. Peoples’ English is very poor and mostly non-existent. You con use your Hong Kong dollars anywhere you wish, which is very nice due to a short stay.

Macau is one of the nicest things about living in HK: just the place to unwind - provided you can steer clear of the snake-pit at the Lisboa!
Check out a wee place called the Bolo de Arroz (sp ?? ) , a great place to eat delicious pastries and meet ex-pat Portugese.

Aside from the throng of hookers in hotels and "saunas," Macau is a lovely town with a plethora of great places to eat - Henri's, Platau, and hole-in-the-walls spring to mind. Come here if you'd like a nice, chill weekend (a week would be too much unless you are a hard-core gambler).
