H Pilling 03 February 2005
Stayed at  Green Park Hotel - Hanoi, Vietnam.
If you take the "group" Dragon boat tour in Hue for 25.000VND (which is really more fun because you get to meet a lot of interesting people from all over) what they don't tell you is at all but one of the 5 historic sites they take you to, you have to buy a ticket to get in for 55.000VND, plus at 2 of the sites you have to hire a motor bike to take you there. Most of my fellow tourists felt a little cheated by all the hidden costs...just remember, you get what you pay for!

Stayed at  International Hotel Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam.
Worthwhile to take in a trip of the Mekong Delta area, which we arranged through hotel (believe it was Saigon Tours). Visited Reunification Palace and HCMC Museum which were both well worth seeing. Internet access best at major dept. store.

Stayed at  Hanoi Heritage Hotel - Hanoi, Vietnam.
My favorite thing to do in Hanoi is the water puppet show. I can also recommend Bobby Chinn's Quan An 22 Restaurant, and Cha Ca La Vong for fish!

R Towsner 18 January 2005
Stayed at  Grand Hotel - Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam.
Ho Chi Minh City--Pho Oso Restaurant at 37 Dong Khoi Street inexpensive and good. History Museum and War Remnants Museum well worth seeing.

J Holtz 14 January 2005
Stayed at  Majestic Hotel - Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam.
Don't be superstitious: Have lunch at "Restaurant 13". Vietnamese cuisine just around the corner at Ngo Duc Ke, friendly, busy, value for money. Please don't compare it with La Fourchette next door, with their arrogant, inattentive staff, their canteen-style food and their rip-off prices. You order crepes, you get a rubbery pancake. Brrrr.

P Dyson 09 January 2005
Stayed at  Grand Hotel - Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam.
Saigon is a great city and well worth spending 3 to 4 days there. We had been warned about an increase in bag lefts etc but we saw nothing that caused us concern. A day trip to Cu Chi tunnels is good value but be cautious of the city tours on offer. Most places they take you to can be visited easily on foot within an afternoon and at a much cheaper cost. The War Remnants Museum is well worth a visit and the Reunification Palace although lacking in English translations/descriptions is an interesting place to spend an hour if you have time free. Good restaurants are: Maxim's opposite Grand Hotel with local food, classical music playing, quiet alcoves, excellent service or if you need a change of diet, Urvashi at 27D Hai Trieu has great Indian.

T Crozier 08 January 2005
Stayed at  De Syloia Hotel - Hanoi, Vietnam.
Hanoi in January is cool and dry and we could get around during the day quite comfortably in light jackets and jeans. While we were there the air quality was quite poor with a smoggy haze blanketing the city and reducing visibility. However it didn't dampen our enthusiasm for exploring the lake area, the Old Quarter and French Quarter. The Water Puppet Theatre originates in Hanoi and is well worth a visit as is Uncle Ho's body lying in state. Halong Bay is a 'must do' trip from Hanoi and the best tip is to stay overnight on a Sampan to enjoy the full experience of this magnificent bay.

G Sloane 07 January 2005
Stayed at  Pho Hoi II Hotel - Hoi An, Vietnam.
The very best restaurant in Hoi Ann, is the MANGO ROOMS, (just across the street from the Tam Tam Cafe). Relaxed and lounge atmosphere in the decor and music, tempting menu (asian fusion), wonderful service, and definite value for the money!

B Rumble 06 January 2005
Stayed at  Dong An Beach Hotel - Hoi An, Vietnam.
Our favourite place to visit in Asia is Hoi An ancient town. A great place to have tailor made clothes & shoes at unbelievable prices. The town is about 10 minutes drive to the resort beach area where our hotel was located.

G Barenberg 04 January 2005
Stayed at  Hilton Hanoi Opera Hotel - Hanoi, Vietnam.
Hanoi was much colder than we expected (we went at the end of December to the beginning of January). We were wearing layers and plenty of sweaters the whole time. Crossing the streets were nearly impossible due to the speeding motorbikes. I found it much easier to get around Ho Chi Minh City than Hanoi.
