Transportation around Pattaya is very easy as there are scores of public mini-type buses that can take you up and down the beach for 10 baht. For water sports I highly recommend hiring one of the many speedboats parked on the beach (about 600 baht per person) to one of the outer islands where the water is crystal clear. Pattaya beach itself is quite dirty.

I had never been to Phuket and was surprised that things were generally more expensive than Bangkok. Because of the tsunami aftermath, most areas were still quiet and when shopping, i did not have the heart to bargain. But still some good bargains to be found.

Good Location. Just walk around 30m ahead (just beside the main road), you can see the "Wan Tan Mee' stall that you can never miss. From there you can go around Pratunam (Bayoke 1, Bayoke2, Pratunam Center & Pratunam market). At night if you cross the overhead bridge, and walk around 45m you can see the famous T-restaurant, food is nice and with reasonable price. My group (sister & husband, friend and husband Plus me and wife) have tasted the best Tom Yam ever in our life. Walk all the way down to the big main cross junction, turn right and cross the bridge, you will reach Iseatan. There is a lot of good roadside food and a lot of people is there eating nice food. They also sell all the cheap and good staff (like clothing, shoe (180 batt), very nice ear ring (3 for $50 bat), Very Very nice BBQ and Fried Chicken wing (5 bat), boxer shorts (70 bat). You can also see lot of elephant for people to feed them.
Opposite Iseatan and Centre World Plaza, you can see the Big C complex that just like carrefour. Walk further down you can reach SIAM and MBK. If you like shoppoing a lot around MBK around, than you can stay another 2 days in RENO hotel (870Bat) which is around 30M around from MBK and famous wendy house is also along the stretch. Do not forget to go to Chatuchat, than follow by watching the LIVE (Real fight) thai boxing in Lumpini Stadium and tour around the Suan Lum market at night. Do go to Pat Pong, Grand Palace, Chinatown and Damnern
saduak Floating Market.

Interesting town, although too much traffic. Mountain countryside is very pleasant and best accessed by taxi at a negotiated price of Bhat1,000 per day. The drivers know the best attractions but need to be kept under control as their main objective is to make commission particularly from craft centres.

My overall trip was great except for 2 incidents. Incident 1 - Went to Wat Pho and the weather was too hot to walk to Khao San Road so decided to take a tuk-tuk, which ended up as a nightmare ride. The rider told us he will take us somewhere on the way there, some tourist place. Since the ride was only 50 Baht, me and my partner thought why not. Realised it was a scam when we ended up at some duty free jewellery place. After that, he insisted to take us to some tailor nonsense place which we obliged coz the rider promised that right after he will drop us at Khao San. Rider "sort of begged" to do him this favour coz the tailor was giving free gas voucher that day for customers he brings into the shop.
Incident 2- A taxi that i took outside the Asia Hotel, the driver tried to talk me and my partner into diverting to some other tourist place though we insisted we only wanted to go to Chatuchak. He said the market is not opened yet. What nonsense, I'm not a first-timer going there. Though the ride that he offered to divert was cheaper, it's a total waste of time. It's a scam for the drivers to earn some side income for petrol or whatsoever again like the earlier incident. So lesson learned, prefably do not take cabbies or tuk-tuks outside the hotel premises but just right outside the lobby.

If you walk up to Patpong, turn down the road on the right next to California Wow gym and there's a restaurant on the left that serves amazing Tom Yam soup - I can't remember the name of it, but it's a Thai restaurant near the top of the road.

Bangkok was wonderfull. There was a lot of shopping and site seeing. We recommend you get out to a beach city for a day or two as well as Bangkok could become a little overwhelming. Don't forget to pick up a Nancy Chandlers Map for bangkok. It is very helpful.

Soi Cowboy, near the Taipan, is a sad reflection on Western tourists. Support the wonderful restaurant 'Cabbages and Condoms', which does so much to alleviate the ravages of HIV/Aids etc. We found a very good new restaurant on Soi 23, 'Con-fusion', mixed Thai continental food. They need some publicity, the cooking was excellent. Ayathudha was a wonderful destination, epic in proportion. Bridge on River Kwai was a worthwhile day tour, if only to appreciate the difficulties prisoners and locals experienced.

Tour the Wat Po before you tour the Grand Palace. Do not be taken in by the scam that that says either or both are closed for special Thai holiday but the nicely dressed person speaking good english can arrange for a tour or other nearby wats and places of interest until they open up. Wat Po and the Palace are never closed during their normal business hours.
