Stayed at Central Karon Village - Phuket, Thailand.

We mainly spent heaps of time in the resort itself. We enjoyed just lying around under the sun and the spa there. Very other night we spent our time at Patong and we managed to book tickets and watched the excellent performance by Fantasea. Two thumbs up for this whole trip :)

Stayed at Dusit Laguna Resort Hotel - Phuket, Thailand.

Thailand is lovely, my only problem with the resort is that it is cut-off from the rest of the Island, and there doesn't seem to be a lot of information about the rest of the area. Certainly spend some time at the Dusit, but to go there and see nothing else of Thailand would be a dreadful shame as it's a very sanitised version of the real thing. If you don't want to go too further afield, take a few days away from the resort and go to Phi Phi which is about one and a half hours boat trip away from Phuket - lovely, and although still touristy slighlty more attached to reality - also if you're interested, good diving to be had there!

Stayed at Absolute Seapearl Beach Hotel, Phuket - Phuket, Thailand.

There are lots of beautiful beaches on the western side of Phuket which are a good alternative to Patong. One of these Laem Singh beach is only a short distance from Patong but seems a world away. Also took a half day tour which included Phang Nga Bay about 100 kms north of Phuket. Beautiful marine park well worth a visit and not a strain on enjoying a relaxing vacation.

Stayed at Thara Patong Beach Resort, Phuket - Phuket, Thailand.

There are a lot of things to do in Patong. You can do tours to James Bond Island, Phi Phi Island and also dive or fishing trips. Most trips have the bad disadvantage that you spend a lot of time at a cashew nut factory and a gems store where you are forced to buy overpriced, low quality stuff. We had a day tour to James Bond Island just 30 min at the island, but 90 min at the shops! You should avoid Sealand Tours, but most others are not much better.

Stayed at Thavorn Beach Village - Phuket, Thailand.
|
Patong Village just 5 minutes away by taxi, so all the bars, restaurants and shopping you'll need and more! Savoy restaurant was particularly good.
Phuket Phantasea show was pretty good, although the theme park itself was slightly cheesy. A Boat trip to Phi Phi for some snorkelling was definitely one of the highlights.

Stayed at Comfort Resort Patong - Phuket, Thailand.

Prices seem to be rising in the Patong area. Many more fixed prices are coming in - for example, you can no longer barter over watersports equipment (like jet-skis).
There's still a million and one tailors, but I highly recommend Mr. Henry's, which is near the north end of the beach. They actually seem to know what they are talking about and I've been satisfied on the three occasions I've visited them.

Stayed at Jiva Resort and Spa - Phuket, Thailand.

Kata Beach is the most beautiful beach I've ever been to. Furthermore, Phuket is one the most beautiful destinations in the world.
I would also like to inform readers of this site to not be afraid to go to Phuket during the rainy season; especially if you can stay a long time. We did encounter rain two of the five days we were there, but I was told (by reliable sources) that this is a little unusual and that the two days before we had arrived had been beautiful. So that would have made it two out of seven days. That being said, be careful when going on boat excursions during this time. We went to Phi Phi and had to endure a pretty violent storm on our return boat trip to Phuket.
Lastly, I would like to mention that the only place to stay is at the Kata Beach Resort. We originally stayed at the Jiva, but checked out after the first night due to its distance from the beach. Fortunately, the Kata Beach Resort had rooms available and were we able to stay the remainder of our trip in a deluxe sea view room. This room was on the second floor and overlooked the pool and the beach. It was fabulous. Ironically, I did not originally book this hotel due to negative comments on this website. These comments may have been old since I was told the hotel was refurbished in September 2003. But, I found the hotel to be beautiful and the staff to be accomodating. I would rate this a 5 star hotel except, as a resort, I thought they would provide more activities and have things like snorkel gear readily available. As a result, I would rate it 4 and 1/2 stars.

Stayed at Sunset Beach Resort - Phuket, Thailand.

Patong offers a myriad of activity and interest to every walk of life. The food is good but bewarned in some places there are double standards on pricing to tourist. Try the local seafood behind Tiger Disco, it is superb and very reasonably priced. If you are game to watch Thai boxing, it is just a stone's throw away from these stalls.

We had great seafood at Da Nang Seafood at Chalong Bay. It's rather far but the food is cheap and fresh.
