Stayed at Holiday Inn Atrium Singapore - Singapore, Singapore.

Singapore is a perfect place for a short vacation. It is a hub for almost every international carrier. Changi airport is the best airport I have seen so far with lots of shopping, a movie theater, showers, massage, coffee shops, a variety of restaurants and even wireless internet access (for a low charge).
You can get from point A to point B in Singapore in less than an hour at any given time of the day or night since the traffic always flows smoothly. The public transportation is impeccable. I recommend buying an ez-link card at the airport so that you dont have to fish out change.
You absolutely have to try the shows at Jurong Bird Park, the Night Safari and the glass cable cars to Sentosa Island. We spent New Year's eve at Boat quay. You can get a candle-lit dinner by the river and then get a drink and dance in one of the many clubs lining the quay and then come out to watch the fireworks. Can't come up with a more perfect setting.
Coming from the US, Orchard Rd didn't quite impress me, though the labels are a bit cheaper if you are into shopping. China town is a great place for getting souvenirs. For food in Singapore stick to the food centers. They are cheap, clean and the food tastes awesome. You must try the Bbq sting ray at Raffles quay or Sentosa Island.
Everyone speaks English and is tourist-friendly so its very easy to get around. You can bargain at China town etc. but you are not going to get much discounts since the goods are already cheap. No one is trying to make a buck off you. One of the porters even refused a tip! Overall the most perfect vacation I have ever had.

Stayed at Keong Saik Hotel - Singapore, Singapore.

The MRT in spore is excellent. The beach in Sentosa Island was nice. If you live at this hotel, you can change your money inside at "CK Dept" store which is about 2 blocks away. The only thing was I was looking for was a phone card which I coudln't find and had to use the hotel to make long-d calls.

Shopping is excellent with so many locations to choose from. As a place for cheap shopping though, I would dispute that. The choice is extensive though, especially for computer, sound and photographic equipment.
We found the train system to be cheap, convenient and efficient. It is really easy to use and you can get to almost any place on the island. We used it to go to and from Changi Airport instead of taxis. We highly recommend a walk along the Singapore River past Raffles Landing. No visit would be complete without spending some time at the Raffles Hotel. The Singapore Sling was lovely and for $S25 I had the cocktail and kept the glass. If you are short of time and there for the first time, try a day trip.
The Changi tour is very interesting with a visit to the Prison Museum (poignant), a Malay Village replica etc. I also recommend the evening tour which includes a trip on a Bum Boat down the river past Merlion Park. The tour guides are very knowledgeable and you learn a lot. The airport is great too. I was there in the evening and nearly missed my flight - got too engrossed in the music of the live band!

Nice getaway. The Mangrove Swamp tours (especially the night one where you can see fire flies) are great attractions even for the kids.

Stayed at Broadway Hotel - Singapore, Singapore.

Little India is the best place in Sinapore for food.
Sinapore Zoo is one of the best I have been to and well worth a visit.
Sampling a Sinapore Sling in Raffles, although a bit obvious, is an experience not to be missed.

Having lived in Singapore with our 2 children from 2000 - 2002 I was very keen to revisit old haunts, it was hard to choose where to go with only 1 day there but would highly recommend the following:
1) the zoo - excellent with wonderful play areas for kids on hot days (if you are there overnight or for more than one day DO try the night safari which is excellent).
2) the Science Centre - choose this if you're there on a rainy day - there's a Mcdonald's there and an IMAC theatre to keep all happy!
3) for shopping go to the Ngee An Centre with Takashimaya or Center Point or for something different try Tanglin mall and then Holland Village
4) The Bird Park is great if you have more than one day
5) Clark Quay is a nice place to visit for bars/restaurants and market stalls on the river
6) Bugis Village is the home of 'copy watches' and 'copy' just about anything!

Stayed at Angsana Resort & Spa Bintan Island - Bintan Island (Indonesia), Singapore.
|
It would be advisable not to go in December. We spent 2 whole days indoors because of the rainy monsoon season. Fortunately, Angsana has sisters such as Laguna Bintan and Banyan Tree which meant we could visit these other resorts' restaurants and gift shops. Transport to these places were free.
