Stayed at Royale Bintang, The - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

A good location to visit shopping malls and street eateries. Many small rest's are located on Tengkat Tong Shin only a 5 min walk from hotel. Sao Nam (Vietnamese) was one of the best. A selection of fantastic dishes, resonable prices for both food and drink.

This was our third trip to KL in one year. It was our only aim to climb the Petronas Tower for the sky bridge. The first time we came was a monday so we missed out as was not open. The second time, what with sorting our Australia visas, the intense heat, and illness we also missed out. So this time we made it. We almost didn't. We queued as everyone else on the morning and got our time. But, in a flurry of shopping actvitiy we almost missed our time. Well in fact we did. My wife had to quickly slip out of a pair of pants she was trying on in one of the stores and we ran through the 34 degree heat to arrive 10 minutes later but still able to get in to the tower.

Stayed at Puri Melaka, Hotel - Melaka (Malacca), Malaysia.
|
Melaca is a nice place to spend a day or two. As such there are not many tourist attractions but the city with its ancient architecture is worth a visit for a day or two. We stopped over at Melaka on our way to Mersing.

Stayed at Pelangi Beach & Spa Resort - Langkawi, Malaysia.
|
Pelangi Beach hotel is located on Pantai Cenang. This beach isn't the prettiest on the island. There was a fair bit of rubbish washed up on the sand and in parts there was a strange rotting smell. Pelangi Beach Hotel is however, up the far end of the beach and therefore probably one of the better hotels to stay at on this stretch. There are a few shops and other restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. A really great spot to eat is the Red Tomato Beach Cafe. Excellent food and service. Also very clean, and great sunset views during dinner.

Stayed at Cititel Penang - Penang, Malaysia.

We loved Penang, despite the weather being really humid. Did a walking tour of the Heritage sites of Georgetown, which was both informative and interesting. The Blue Mansion was well worth visiting. Also took a trishaw ride to Fort Cornwallis and a fishing village. The driver had a wealth of knowledge about the local area, and I felt very safe with him, despite the traffic. Ate dinner one night at "The Lone Pine" at Batu Ferringhi, and nasi kandar at Kayu's. Lunched at the restaurant next to Cititel--Mayflower garden I think it was called, and also at the Japanese rest in Cititel. Food everywhere of excellent quality and taste. People were most friendly and helpful. Shopping in Komptar was very good, tho I think we got a bit lost there--didn't see many directions, but the person in the information booth was very helpful. Recommend change money with the licensed money-changers as they offer a better rate than the airports. Loved every bit of it--can't wait to go back!!!

For someone who loves the nature, and just has 5 or 6 days or even less to spend in West Malaysia, I would highly recommend you to my favourite destination - Cameron Highland. It is like 5 hours from Kuala Lumpur. Here you would find the tranquility of the mountain, esacape from the heat of the city. Spare yourself, at least, two days at Cameron Highland, join the must go half day tour to tea plantation farm. Here you would see the most lovely and spectacular view of little green lot of tea farm, spreading all over the valleys ranging from one valley to another. Transportation - better to take the espress bus from Puduraya bus station in the early morning. After 5 hours of journey, you arrive Cameron Highland at around 1 or 2 pm. Registerd for a half day or whole day tour. Just relaxed yourself for the rest of the day. On day 2, begin with the tour and enjoy mother nature with experience local guide. If you are taking the half day tour, you would be able to catch the 1:30pm bus back to Kuala Lumpur and save some time!
Accommodation - for the moderate price places to stay (around US35/nite) at Tapah Rata should be fine. Everything will be in walking distance. Food - the most popular to have at the highland is "steamboat", opened by the local chinese who lived there for 20 years. You just plan less than US3 for a "all-u-can-eat" steamboat buffet at any chinese restaurant. Enjoy the food and a beer on hand is the best thing you could never have in Cameron Highland.
Last but not least - I lost my backpack during my coach transfer from Tapah Rata (Cameron Highland) back to Kuala Lumpur. I was aware of this until I arrived KL which was 730pm in the evening already. I was in panic and the only thing I had was the coach ticket which got the address of the bus company. So I ran to the bus company under heavy rainfall, and asked for help. The lady there was so friendly, asked me to calm down and told me that they already got a phone call from the transfer station, knowing I had left my luggage. And they had arranged the next bus to bring the luggage back to me. During my wait for the next bus to come, which was 2 1/2 hours, though tired and hungry, the lady offered a chair for me which was the best comfort I can have. By 10pm, the bus finally arrived and the bus driver saw a frightened me rightaway. It was good to have my luggage back, really. Many thanks to all the people who had given me a hand during the journey in Malaysia! Terima Kesih!

Stayed at Puteri Pan Pacific Hotel Johor Bahru, The - Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
|
We got around by car. Coming from Singapore, it was a smooth and easy road to hotel destination. We heard so much about Danga Bay from our friends. Ample parking spaces and spoilt for choice of food made us brought our parents to try the foods there especially the lunch buffet of 'Kampung Dishes' which were soo authentic and varieties with we pay for a very affordable price. Those who wish to drive in Johor the signs are very helpful and easy. You will never be hungry at Johor Bahru, almost every turn there will be restaurants and shopping malls are plenty. Traffic is rather busy. Of all, we love Danga Bay so for foodies like us, do look that out!Beautiful at night:)

Stayed at Grand Seasons Hotel - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
|
The hotel is within walking distance to Chow Kit Monorail Station. This is great for guests visiting Bukit Bintang area. However, to get to the KL city center, you have to go by other mode of transport, unless you take the Monorail to its terminal at Titiwangsa and change over to Starline, another LRT network system.

Stayed at Bon Ton Restaurant & Resort - Langkawi, Malaysia.
|
We took a mangrove tour which was a great day out on the water with many varied activities learning about the mangroves, and ecology; bat hunting (with camera not guns!), getting fingers nibbled by fish and feeding eagles. The guide was extremely knowledgeable - Biden -contacts details with Bon Ton. Well worth the day out.
