Monorail [Maharajalela] is nearby for your start of adventure of less than four, don't forget to experience all monorail/trains routes especially KL Sentral to sample Malaysian Life and Architectures, also find out cheap way to KLIA. Otherwise just go across and walk for less than 10 minutes to experience Jalan Petaling's China Town. For family or those lazy to walk better use taxi service.

If you're a plus size lady like myself, you might want to try this shop are Pelangi Shopping Centre on 2nd level at Taman Pelangi. Just tell the cab driver Pelangi Shopping Centre the fare is around RM12 from the hotel. Anything more might be due to the traffic, you might want to bargain a bit more if they charge you anything more than RM12. The shop's name is fyi.

Try to dine at the Seegood Restaurant, just next to the hotel. The food is superb, and quite reasonably priced for a big portion. The service is also very fast.

Kuala Lumpur completely changed my impression of Malaysia. The roads are surprisingly clean and the air fresh, much unlike other places in Malaysia that I frequent, eg Johor Bahru, Melacca, etc. But one thing I found amusing is that the traffic lights don't work, or rather, the locals don't like to follow the green man much (even after the time when traffic lights in KL are turned on). At least, in most places other than the Bukit Bintan area.
I found nice 'dai pai dong(s)' (hawker stalls selling food along the street side) along Jalan Alor. The atmosphere was good and there was a healthy crowd there that persisted even after midnight, sampling durians, fried oyster cake, claypot rice, grilled fish, satay, etc. I also unearthed a few good restaurants along Jalan Imbi that served great lunch. The service was just as excellent as the food.
I had a most exciting (not to mention rewarding) shopping time in the Jalan Bukit Bintang area, spending my time(and money) in Lot 10, Sungei Wang. Don't forget to visit Megamall(in Mid Valley) and 1 Utama for a promising shopping expedition. Taxi is affordable (if you know how to bargain) and taking the monorail or the buses is not a problem either. Sunway Lagoon was every bit as fun as the brochures say. But I prefer exploring the streets of KL. KL is sure a destination I'll visit again.

The Mangrove tour is highly recommended. Good value as quite a few things were packed into the itinerary. We managed to secure a boat all to ourselves (3 of us) so we could stay longer or skip certain places. We were also lucky enough to see dolphins. Rent a car and tour Langkawi on your own as there are other interesting shops to see which tours don't cover. Check out the stalls at Beras Terbakar where you can get cheaper T-shirts (RM4 each) and the cable car ride is fascinating. Quite a challenge for those with vertigo (like myself!) as the ride gets quite steep.

I would recommend the Lighthouse restaurant. Excellent food and lovely location. We hired a car for a day and this was plenty of time for us to see the island. We would recommend the cable car ride but be warned - it is very high!

Good hawker food at Persiaran Gurney. Don't miss taking a walk along the seafront after dinner though.
Kek Lok Si temple has become so commercialised it is not worth visiting other than perhaps a cursory look from a distance. Besides having to walk though a narrow covered passageway with shops lining it in order to get to the temple, the temple itself is charging for everything, even to visit its pagoda.

New Hongkong restaurant serves quality dim sum in clean, more upmarketlike restaurant settings, service was v attentive and price affordable- about 12RM i think pax for 4 ppl...
Recommend this noodle house at corner of Jalan Serampang- this is N swee somth 4got the name... serves typical roast duck/charsiew wonton noodles & some dim sum. Food is good in non aircon humbler settings ... about 7RM pax.

Stayed at Corus hotel Kuala Lumpur - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of the city. The Petronas twin towers is just 5 minutes walk. Jalan Masjid India is 10 minutes drive from the hotel for Indian food lovers. The LRT is just few minutes walk. The hotel provides tours. I had taken a tour to Sunway Lagoon. The tour was interesting but slightly expensive for a family of 4-5 members. My recommendation is if you are 2 members it is cost effective. If not you can hire a taxi to the place which may be cheaper.

Stayed at Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort - Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.

Sunday market, Manukan Island trip, Kinabalu National Park and the Canopy Walk at Poring Hot spring were worth visiting. Borneo steam engine train was moderate, the stop at the market could have been longer. Go for the seafood located opp Centrepoint. Night markets are disappointing.
