Stayed at  Federal Kuala Lumpur, The - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Beware of the Indian guys in yellow taxis outside the hotel - they try to charge you 3 time the fee of a normal red/white/black taxi. Go up in the KL Tower, not Petronas. Excellent view and a nice buffet in revolving restaurant. We also went to Kuala Selangor to watch fire flies - quite an experience. Just hooked up with a local taxi/tour guide who also took us to this great Chinese seafood restaurant on the river (River View Restaurant). Best food on the trip! Don't let the taxi drivers tempt you to take a car to KLIA, the Express train is much more comfortable and less scary. Good drinks at L'Opera on Bukit Bintang, close to Planet Hollywood. It's a problem otherwise to get the right proportions in the drinks since they don't seem to like serving alcohol.

Stayed at  Renaissance, Kuala Lumpur Hotel - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Petronas Towers spectacular--shopping centre attached a mixture of expensive international labels, and good value local product--Isetana department store great range and prices. Chinatown great fun--fakes of every description, with watches, handbags and shoes great buying. Overall, KL a very nice city to visit for a few days

Stayed at  Coronade Hotel Kuala Lumpur, The - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The hotel's central location make it an ideal hotel to stay at for business people and for tourists. We found the shopping and the eating places near the hotel perfect for those people wishing to experience what Malaysian cuisines and fashion has to offer. Putrajaya is a must see place along with Petronas Twin Towers. I jogged in the leisure park outside the Twin Towers for my two-day stay. I also believe travel to and from the airport is costly and involved. I believe the hotel has complimentary transport but at no time was i aware of this and feel that the hotel would be better served if it was highlighted in its promotional advertising.

Stayed at  Heritage Hotel Ipoh - Ipoh, Malaysia.
We drove around and visited the temples and the small eateries. The food was very good, with the famous dim sum from the restaurant called Fu-shan. And also the Lao Wong chicken rice which is only opened from evening onwards. And shopping at the shopping mall with Jusco in it. The shopping mall has many varieties and standard outlets which really offers a good shopping experience.

Stayed at  Holiday Inn Resort Penang - Penang, Malaysia.
Great location to shop around. Don't miss the night market and make good deals bargaining. Also the hawker center in front of Golden Sands hotel is a good deal (beer is much cheaper here).

Stayed at  MiCasa All Suite Hotel - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
If you are interested in CDs and DVDs, shop at Imbi Plaza opposite of Time Square.

Stayed at  Century Mahkota Hotel Melaka - Melaka (Malacca), Malaysia.
Location is really great - just opposite the hotel is Melaka's biggest shopping centre - mahkota parade. You can spend a greater part of the day shopping - lots of stuff and variety, fashion, supermarket, etc. Especially great for families with kids - to pick up essentials and there's MacDonald's, KFC, Kenny rogers chicken, etc. My visits to Melaka usually includes at least one round of golf. There are various clubs there - Tiara Melaka, Golden Valley and Orna - all within close distance of one another. These courses are also rather challenging which makes the game much more enjoyable. Orna is the only club to offer night golfing though (not sure if they still do...) There's also this Teochew restaurant near Jonker Street which serves authentic Teochew stuff. Biz is so good that you have to make advance reservations..... Pricey though.

Stayed at  Holiday Inn Resort Damai Beach - Kuching, Malaysia.
Sarawak Cultural Village very close, climbed up Mt. Santubong (very tiring but rewarding once you get to the top!). The Dutong seafood restaurant near the hotel is very nice. Visited Bako National Park which was amazing and spent the whole day visiting Kuching, very laid back and peaceful city.

C Chua 30 December 2004
Stayed at  Swiss Garden Resort & Spa, Kuantan - Pahang, Malaysia.
We tried the local touristy seafood spots (Pak Su) and visited the night markets on two occasion for the atmosphere and to get fresh fruits. It was also an easy hot into town (Kuantan) where food was a lot cheaper and had greater variety.

N Mcintyre 29 December 2004
Stayed at  MiCasa All Suite Hotel - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
My husband and I then went on to Genting Highlands (three days) and thereafter to Kota Kinabalu (four days). We are afraid that after Micasa, every other accommodation pales in comparison ... You've spoiled us for choice!!! Our itinerary was Auckland/Singapore/Johor Bahru/Kuala Lumpur/Genting Highlands/Kuala Lumpur/Kota Kinabalu/Kuala Lumpur/Johor Bahru/Singapore/Auckland. We left Auckland on Christmas Eve via Air New Zealand flight and reached Changi Singapore Airport at around 7 pm. We decided to try Singapore's efficient MRT system and then catch a bus into Johor Bahru (JB). We were held up at the Singapore Customs Checkpoint which resulted in us missing our bus which was supposed to take us into JB. We ended up braving three flights of stairs (luckily going down and not up!), the tropical heat and mad traffic (public holidays) by walking the whole length of the Causeway, lugging along all our heavy luggage and backpacks!

Once we cleared the Malaysian Customs, we hailed a taxi which cost us Ringgit 20 (un-metered) to take us to our hotel, which was only five minutes away by car. We had to travel a slightly further distance the next day and that only cost us Ringgit 5!!! What an experience for us, one that we would not be in a hurry to repeat in the future. Kota Kinabalu - we have never visited KK in all our travels to Asia and thought it worthwhile to pay this city in East Malaysia a visit. We were very disappointed by the rubbish and stench of the seafront (we stayed in Promenade Hotel) and are considering writing to the local authorities there.
