The Komtar Mall (connected to Shangri La Hotel) is run down and a waste of time, go to the Prangin Mall next door a much nicer experience. Lunch at the Eastern and Oriental Hotel is a nice treat and very resonably priced. Mosquito guard is essential if you visit the Spice Garden Park near Ferringhi Beach.

It was my first trip to Kl and wanted to see many things via taxis for my short time. Taxis were a major problem because they charge too much and won't put the meter on. I didn't find many friendly people in the city but when I did they were terrific and friendly. The cultural diversity of the city grew on me. The Petronas towers and shopping were great. The city feels safe and my selection of restaurants wasn't good. I will do better next time. I even shopped at IKEA. I recommend the train from the airport opposed to a taxi. The trains and monorail are very good to get around. I will do a lot better next trip.

KL is a surprisingly nice city! Very developed but also very green; ie lots of large trees still standing. Prices are very reasonable. With the mixed Malay, Chinese, and Indian population a great range for both people watchers and diners!
Get to Petronas Towers early to book your slot up to the sky bridge. I arrived at 11 am on a weekday and couldn't get up till 3:45. You can get up the KLCC Tower with no wait, but do have to book in advance for the dining floors. If interested in history and seeing a bit of the country I definitely recommend booking a tour to Melaka. Just down the street (away from BB Plaza) from Bintang Warisan Hotel is a small, open front Islamic roti and curry place. Value for money doesn't even begin to describe it! You pay for the roti and the dahl comes free. For 6 ringgit, I staggered out after having 5 rotis with the accompanying dahl. Don't miss it!

I took the Airport Coach to the hotel (1-hour journey) as opposed to the heavily touted KLIA Ekspres (28 minutes to KL Sentral). Price for the coach ride was RM20 vs RM35 for the KLIA Ekspres. You have to board the air-conditioned coach at level 1 at the KLIA bus terminal and it will take you to the coach company's main bus station in KL where you will be despatched by mini-coach to your hotel. Good value for the money and quite convenient, even though the drab waiting area at KLIA and at the bus terminal does give out a somewhat grungy feel to it! ;) Good value for the money and the convenience of door-to-door pickup though.

Stayed at Berjaya Tioman Beach, Golf & Spa Resort - Pahang, Malaysia.

The setting is beautiful as the island is largely undeveloped, a welcome change from Phuket, Langkawi, etc. The beach is rather rocky but at hightide the swimming is great. Plus, there is a gorgeous little island with beautiful white sand (Coral Island) which you can get to by boat in about 20 minutes.

Unless you're interested in T-shirts and fake designer purses and watches, skip the Chinatown street of Jln Petaling and the Little India street of Jln Masjid India - they've lost any authentic charm they may once have had.
I would recommend a visit to the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia, (FRIM) just outside of the city for a walk in the rainforest and across the canopy walkway. A taxi will cost only RM40 return plus waiting time.

Malacca is a beautiful state built on rich cultural heritage. The people were friendly and the food was abundant. There is no one particular place I would recommend as everything new is a must try. The historical site is fantastic; it really makes you feel as if you were there during the 1600s. There are lots of Moslems of past heroes as well as heroines who fought and protected the state for the sultan. Their heroic tales are worth putting some time to read. As I was driving around I had the opportunity to explore the place at my own place, visiting the locals instead of the tourist facilities. What better way to explore a new place if you just stick to tailored sites ;). But do watch out for the weather, use sun screen and moisturizers and drink lots or water! The heat was unbearable. Trying visiting the place during a much cooler season, but not the monsoon season either. The last thing you want is a torrential downpour hampering your holiday.
