Stayed at  Grand Plaza Parkroyal, Penang - Penang, Malaysia.
Delicious and reasonable priced food all around Penang especially at Gurney Drive. For a good restaurant at Batu Feringghi, try Wizard of Oz (Western and Oriental cuisine available). Places of visit like Penang Hill and Kek Lok Si a bit overcrowded perhaps due to peak holiday season.

Stayed at  Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort - Penang, Malaysia.
We hired a car, which was great to go to the Butterfly farm etc. and for generally going into Georgetown and touring the island. Lots of good restaurants, for friendliness try out the Last Drop - does a good breakfast and serves a mean curry in the evening. Found the Ship Inn a bit over priced and the steak wasn't that special - service was good though. Excellent service and food at the Eden Seafood restaurant next to the Ship Inn. The cages at the Reptile farm were awful, the animals were very restricted, Butterfly farm was good, an impressive amount of butterflies and a good shop. The Titi Kerawong Waterfall was a bit disappointing, but worth spending half an hour on. The recreational park near the Butterfly farm was good. Kek Lok Si temple was impressive and all of the temples in Georgetown are worth a visit. Penang Hill is a must, and the canopy walk. You could easily spend two weeks in Penang and do something different everyday - we did that for 17 days.

Stayed at  Cititel Penang - Penang, Malaysia.
Georgetown is fantastic - colonial architecture, friendly people, and a lot cheaper than KL to shop. Favourite restaurant - New Woodlands Madras restaurant on Penang St - do not confuse with Jln Penang. Wonderful south indian food and very cheap (RM5 for a meal) - the only place I will use!

J Williams 03 August 2003
Stayed at  Shangri-La's Golden Sands Resort - Penang, Malaysia.
We hired a car for a day and drove around the island. The first time I have driven in Asia (from Australia). Worthwhile experience although a little testing at times in traffic. The three or four restaruants opposite and just north of the Goldern Sands were very good.

Don't try the Funicular Railway up to Penang Hill on weekends - better during week days.

D Mitchell 18 July 2003
Stayed at  Grand Plaza Parkroyal, Penang - Penang, Malaysia.
Enjoyed Batu Feringhi area, lots of stalls at the night market selling tourist goods. Learn to bargain the price as you can save a lot of money if you are willing to spend a little time agreeing the price. Several good eating places, good food, cheap prices. Always a friendly smile from the staff. Georgetown is neglected and scruffy in comparison to KL and Singapore. Stick to Batu area and enjoy your holiday.

J Sit 08 June 2003
Stayed at  Tanjung Bungah Beach Hotel - Penang, Malaysia.
Can't get a cab and no call-cab service. Have to depend on limo (rather expensive) and not always available. A hawker centre is within walking distance but food is not too good.

G Sheridan 08 June 2003
Stayed at  Oriental Hotel Penang - Penang, Malaysia.
Penang is fabulous! great sights, very historical, people are lovely and the food is scumptous. Though its an island, the beaches are rather disappointing and dirty.

P Prachong 01 June 2003
Stayed at  Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort - Penang, Malaysia.
No problem getting taxis - but cabbies wouldn't go by meter.

T Uchiyama 29 May 2003
Stayed at  Cititel Penang - Penang, Malaysia.
Restaurant: Just beside of this hotel there is nice restaurant "May Garden Seafood Restaurant." If you know how to use public bus to move, this hotel location is very convenient.
