We took the ferry over to Tioman Berjaya, it was 4 and 1/2 hours long but it went very fast. The scenery and the deck out the back on the top deck of the ferry helped, just you could get out and not feel like you were trapped in a boat all the time. The ride was smooth, it didn't feel like a normal boat with the up and down of the waves it was smooth. Very enjoyable ride. We stayed on the island, having 3 kids we were limited to snorkeling areas, so we rented a jet ski for an hour, great fun, and the pool was a great hit with our family, the slides kept them busy - even our 2 year old. Make sure you take peanut butter and jelly for the kids, they don't have a lot of selection for kids to eat there. The snorkeling was wonderful, the coral and the fish will be remembered for a very long time.
We plan on returning before we leave the Singapore area, just a little more prepared.

Taking the boat from Mersing in December can be quite an experience! You'd better not get seasick easily !
A three to four hour walk through the rainforest was fun (at least for us parents, the 11 year old daughter hated it). The rest of the time we stayed at the Hotel relaxing! The swimming pool was fun for the smaller kids; the sea and the beach were great - if you like it when the sea does not become deep quickly. Gym and Golf are ok.

Nice place to visit if you want to have lazy days.
Sea is beautiful and snorkelling and scuba
diving are good here.

The only criticism in this area is that the snorkeling trips were to places that had relatively limited exposure to reef fish. I didn't have time to see if there were other sites that offered exposure to larger fish, for example at the edge of a drop off, etc.
Also, some visitors might want more in terms of education on the culture/ history/ current circumstances of the people on Tioman Island.
Finally, it would be great if flights to and from the island went to the main airports in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore rather than the smaller airports- making flight connections difficult. We had to cut our time there because of that.

The flight from Singpore was convenient and worth the extra
money over the four hour boat trip; however the unreliable flight times of the airline to and from Tioman took three to four hours! Never on time!
The cross island trek was fun and the boat from Juara back to Berjaya was a great experience. The breakfast buffet was excellent but you are pretty well stuck for an eating adventure anywhere but the hotel. Good food at above average prices. You are a captive market! You can hike everywhere!

Tours arranged by the hotel are a good way of seeing all the sites around the hotel.

The around the island boat tour was nice, but watch out during windy weather as they can't stop at the waterfall (the highlight of the trip). The best thing about the whole place is the scuba diving. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to do a good, cheap PADI open water course.

The walk from the village outside the resort across the island to Juara, although a hard 3 hour uphill walk, was well worth it to get to the beautiful beach at Juara. We took a fishing boat back which cost around 100 MYR for a two hour trip. Definitely the best day of our trip. The snorkelling is also really good straight off the beach from the resort.
