Hotel transportation too expensive, We have to hired outside transportation just to go around all the places and I find its to expensive to charge $RM 20 per person just to see turtles laying eggs. Not much experinces occurred during our stayed in Cherating.

Staying at Berjaya Resort was a little bit like living in your own zoological park. We would wake up in the morning and go out and watch the very large monitor lizards swimming around the lake behind our bungalow. In the evening we would watch the monkeys in the trees across the lake. One evening we had a close encounter of the animal kind with those same monkeys. I guess they got tired of being stared at and decided to cross the creek and visit. We caught one trying to steal our cigarettes (or our Visa card depending on who you ask!) In the waters around Tioman we swam with the fishes (not in the Soprano's sense of the word) and turtles. Everywhere you look on Tioman there is some kind of plant or animal life just waiting to be discovered and captured.... on film that is!

The buffet dinners are excellent with a wide variety of food. We like the BBQ buffet the most. Also having a drink at the beach bar during happy hours watching the sunset is a great experience.

Activities are limited but the staff operating the services were friendly and helpful. The food was expensive and only one restaurant provided an Ala Carte menu with the rest having buffets and barbecues at ridiculous prices. As such, the place was always packed and the service was very slow as a result. On the good side, we did have a good time jet skiing and kayaking and the beach was beautiful. Tioman is a very nice place but too bad it is managed horribly by the people there.

Cherating is a good destination for doing nothing. The area offers nothing really but beach. The beach is nice but not sure whether I'd swim in the sea. A great Chinese local resaturant is on the main road, thouroughly recommend the fish head curry.

For those with own transport, a north-bound drive to Kemaman at the border with Trengganu will avail the visitor to quite a few low profile Chinese restaurants that offer fantastic dishes at very cheap prices.
Also, a cruise along Cherating river (don't try fishing - I caught nothing for three hours) is nice. Try to arrange yourself if possible as it is quite expensive through the hotel at MYR70 per person.
Avoid seafood restaurant called Frankie's just opposite the hotel - a rip off targeted at the unsuspecting tourist.

Way out of Desaru area, where is the attraction. Why would I have to pay same price
for a resort out of centre of attraction and with none of the facilities available, apart from
restuarant and swimming pool.
