We took an express bus from Singapore to Melacca. This took about 3-4 hours and was more comfortable than the airplane from the USA. We loved the Tri-shaw tour of the area and shopping at near-by shops. You should know that the ocean in this area is too dirty for swimming, even though there are beaches to walk on.

PS. The laundry opposite the hotel write ID numbers on your clothes! Is this normal?

Initially I was a little disappointed with Melaka, although this was perhaps influenced by a bad hotel experience clouding my judgment.
A change to a better hotel did lead to me seeing the city in a much better light.
There's lots to see and do, although it did seem a little like a city living on its history, but left behind a bit now.
I'd definitely recommend the boat trip we took on the river by Parameswara Tour, located between the tourist office and the Maritime museum. A real bargain at only RM8 each for a trip advertised as lasting 45 mins. But actually was nearly an hour with a very informative and entertaining guide.

Visited the A'Famosa and places of interest (the historical sites) which is actually walking distance from the hotel itself. The Bandar Hilir, the Stadhuys, the monument and the Baba muzium. All of which is a good walking destination if we are adventurers of course with map guides. As I drove, so moving around is not so easy due to its traffic and there's a one way traffic it takes too much time driving around.

The hotel is in the heart of town. We drove around and it was quite nearby.

Melaka was slightly disappointing - not much for the tourist to see and do. The old part is all painted a uniform red, making it look a bit strange. Georgetown (Penang) was a much nicer city with a more colonial feel (though much bigger). As the guide books say, there is not much choice of evening restaurants except in the new part of the town, built on reclaimed land. At least the town is small enough to walk around (navigating in the car was difficult!).

Malacca was quite an historical place :) almost all of the building roof are ment in the sharp edged roof and colored in red. Well, popular things there was Afamosa, and another one is the Tan Kim Hock Dodol :p taste quite good, but it's quite expensive there. The factory is right at somewhere in the heart of the Pusat Bandar! :)
well, next nice thing would be the Afamosa resort! It's packed with wild wild west, animal safari, golf course, water world, and many more! Too much to visit in that place, only manage to visit the animal world. The animal show was fanstatic! Birds talking, eagle flying, and great host too! But on peak season, it's really crowded. Lining up for ticket was a disaster... luckily they have fans around...
