We visited the Portuguese square in the evening and discovered that besides a few stores that serve seafood, and a small souvenier cart, there is nothing else there. The portuguese settlement museum is closed. In contrast, the old town is very enjoyable to walk and we found a couple of nice restaurants, many antique shops and arts galleries with very reasonable pricing. A must to visit.

Malacca is quite a small town so driving around is quite easy. Watch out for directionless roads though. We almost drove towards oncoming traffic! Head towards Jonker Street for wonderful antiques and just a nice walk down memory lane. Go after sun down and you will get to see the night bazaar.

Walking is the best way to look around the beautiful place. We arrived here on Friday and some people told us there is night market in the Jonker Street and it only opens in the evening from Friday to Sunday. You can find many local foods here, it's very important to try the local foods.

For dinner, Ole Sayang 198–199 Jl Taman Melaka Raya (tel 06/283 4384) was well worth the visit, especially the udang goreng asam (deep-fried, tamarind-marinated prawns).

Melaka, the place of history, exoticism and modernism. We experienced all of it. The area next to the hotel has lots of good restaurants and local coffee shops so we had plenty to choose from. Follow the locals - was our one thought - we were not disappointed.
Walking is a good way to see Melaka because the town is relatively small and you get to experience more that way.
Don't forget to pay your respects to the grandfather chameleon perched on a tree trunk every afternoon outside the Red House!

Quiet historical town, nicely preserved shophouses and heritage sites. Visited Bei Zhan (Melaka Raya) a nice restaurant with great food.

Melaka is an interesting place to visit with a lot of history and is an easy drive from KL. The tourist info office is a good place to start. Walking tour maps are available there. The boat trips down the river are also a good way to see the place. It does get very hot walking around so take plenty of water.
We can highly recommend Nancy's Kitchen (15 Jalan Hang Lekir) and Jonkers Melaka (17 Jalan Hang Jebat) for lunch and Harper's Restaurant (on the river on Chinatown side, left over the bridge) for dinner.

The popiah sold from a stall just outside Madam King's departmental store is very very good. Jonker Street is a must.

Interesting walk round the A' Famosa fort portal & palace. The guy selling drawings at the portal with the long hair & goaty beard apparently starred in the film Entrapment as the boatman.

I drive around and travel to all the location. the place of interest is all easy to locate and also the food quality is very good in some of the places. I strongly recommended Medan Ikan Batak, the food there is nice, high quality and good. And the price is really cheap.
