Climbed Mount Kinabalu in 24 hours. Made our summit bid at 3:00am. Summitted at 6:00am. It was an adventure! Headed back down and returned to the Tanjung Aru to rejuvenate and got the best massage!

The Tanjung Aru beach is quite long and it
takes about 1 hour to walk from one end to
the other. You will find the airport's runway
at the other end of the beach. There are lots of local open air
restaurants along the beach which provide good snacks and local drinks while you relax.
They do not however serve any alcohol since
it is against their religion.

We walked to Tanjung Badak Water Village
during the day and did some fishing.
Went there again in the evening by bus for
dinner. A very pleasant place. We wanted to do some horse riding but only found out when
we got to the resort that we needed long
trousers. We had only shorts with us.
As we were there for only 3 days, we did
not go on any tours.

Together with my young family (booked separately) we visited the Islands And Kota Belud. We dined in the Hotel's various restaurants which we thoroughly enjoyed. We did however suffer from seriously upset bowels which we believe resulted from swimming in the sea near the Philipino village.

KOTA KINABALU IS A DELIGHTFUL PLACE WITH MANY RESTAURANTS OFFERING ALL STANDARDS OF CUISINE, IN PARTICULAR SEAFOOD. THE NATIONAL PARKS OFFSHORE PROVIDE A BEAUTIFUL FEW DAYS TO SNORKEL, THE SEA IS CLEAR,THE BOAT TRIP INEXPENSIVE. OTHER FACILITIES INCLUDE JETSKI,
PARAGLIDING AND A BANANA RIDE.I CLIMBED MT KINABALU (14101FT)WENT TO A LONGHOUSE, SAW RAFFLASIA AND CYCLED FROM KOTA KINABALU TO SANDAKAN (350 KMS). I ALSO VISITED THE SWIFT CAVES AND SAKAU RIVER LODGE INCLUDING A 3 HR RIVER CRIUSE, SEPILOK URANG UTANG SANCTUARY.
QUITE FRANKLY THIS WAS THE BEST 16 DAY ACTIVITY HOLIDAY THAT I COULD HAVE HOPED FOR.
(I CYCLED FOR SENSE - THE DEAFBLIND CHARITY AND EXTENDED MY STAY HAVING RAISED £3000 IN SPONSORSHIP).

The sea in front of the hotel is not so nice; the tour to Pooring Spa can be worth while, but the ride on a bus takes a total of 7 hours!! Better rent a car.

One purpose of our visit to Sabah was to see the Rafflesia. Unfortunately, it was not blooming anywhere, not even in the special Rafflesia Center. We visited Poring Springs - we were disappointed not to be able to go on the walkway because it was closed for maintenance, but we were taken on a nature walk through an enclosed part of the jungle, where we saw orang utangs. We also enjoyed snorkelling in the sea in the marine park.

Excellent value in Kota Kinabalu; flights very reasonable and I was able to see a lot of the island in a short amount of time. Recommend going to see the islands off the coast of Kota Kinabalu for some of the best snorkelling I have ever seen.
