Stayed at  Puteri Pan Pacific Hotel Johor Bahru, The - Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
I may be wrong but it seems that it's not easy to get a taxi at the hotel entrance. However, if you don't mind walking, most of the shopping and dining areas are not too far away.

I think all the outlets I tried served excellent food with a bit of variety.

Stayed at  Mutiara Johor Bahru - Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
Pelangi Plaza - a shopping mall which is only a less than 10 minutes taxi ride away.
City Plaza - another interesting shopping mall to visit.
Jumbo Restaurant-located right across Holiday Plaza offering reasonably priced Chinese dishes.
Esquire Kitchen - a budget restaurant where value for money Chinese food is served.

Stayed at  Puteri Pan Pacific Hotel Johor Bahru, The - Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
Shopping area is within distant whereby if you would take a taxi from the hotel will not cost you much.

Stayed at  Sofitel Palm Resort - Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
Guests are recommended to visit IOI Mall, which is about a 15 mins drive from the resort, towards the direction of Kulai.

Johor Bahru as the southern gateway to Malaysia does not disappoint. It has an interesting mix of old and new buildings and is in close proximity to the northern freeway to KL.

JB, shop and eat. Great place to shop! Good food at Taman Market! The seafood tastes delicious! That's my favourite!

Stayed at  Puteri Pan Pacific Hotel Johor Bahru, The - Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
Johor does not seem to offer much in the way of tours, and this hotel did not have information on any city tours. I do not think the city is a tourist destination.
