We drove there from Singapore. Took a side trip to Sungai Rengit a Chinese town about 30 Km away. Very nice seafood at reasonable price.

Quite a smooth drive all the way from Singapore to Desaru. Service at Sea Breeze restaurant was superb and the waiting time for food was very short.

we actually cycle from pengarang to desaru. the route was quite tough especially at the last 11 km, where the route becomes very hilly, so we have to go up-hill then down-hill. very energy consuming. holiday seeker should always drive in or take the taxi. leeave the cycling to the adventures seeker.
desaru beach is quite average. rating is about 7 out of 10.
DId not visit much of the nearby places. Actually attempted to cycle to the nearby small town, Bandar Penawar, but then because limited time, so we didn't go there either.

1) Prepare to spend most of the time in the hotel because nothing much to see (or visit) in the nearby area.
2) We got lost after we reached the town of Kota Tinggi, hence, better to have a map to the hotel before departure.

A number of the hotels in Desaru have fallen on hard times, but the Perdana is still in great shape. And the beach is as beautiful as ever.

I went to desaru by car, it was about one and a half hour drive from Johor, the difficulty level was low as there were signboards stating desaru everywhere. I spent almost three quarter of my time in the resort, there were no worries for meals, entertainments in the resort, but one point to note was that it can be quite boring in the night, so maybe the resort can arrange some nights entertainments or activities.

Desaru is simply for R&R...little else. Yes, there is a golf course (with an acceptable restaurant), a go-kart facility that sometimes works when it manages to stay open, and ultra-light flights from a neighbouring hotel. But that's it. So you're really dependent on the hotel and facilities, though the beach activities (swimming, snorkeling, jet-ski, etc) are only really available from April to Sep, off-monsoon. And remember, there're no neighbouring restaurants AT ALL, so you only eat in!

Not to much to see in the neighbourhood! We toured around by car.
