The the next town is tanah rata (15 km). The only way to go there is by taxi (15 Ringit) or by own car. If you are coming from KL by bus then give a hint to the bus-driver, then he will stop by the lakehouse. A very good indish restaurant in tanah rata is Suria. Very friendly staff and good food.

The strawberry farms along the way up are a sham and not worth wasting time to even explore. There's a BOH tea station along the way with a nice view of the mountains which is worth stopping at.
Having Lunch at the Lakehouse Hotel is also a good idea if you want to take a drive and have lunch at a scenic location. Please do take warm clothing with you just in case it gets cold. It gets cold in the evenings/night.

Bharat's tea graden has nice views of the tea plantation. Rose garden was nice with lots of blooming flowers of all kinds. Butterfly farm also not a bad place to visit. Kea Farm near the equatorial had lots of fresh produce. There is also a large playground in Tanah Ratah which kids can run around. A few strawberry farms around which look kinda similar.

The Cameron Highlands is a good three plus hours drive from KL...two hours on the highway and a slow one hour at least up the mountain. So don't believe anyone who says it is less!! The drive up the hill is very windy and slow due to the many trucks which travel up and down. You must also contend with the crazy locals who drive right up behind you and then overtake on a blind corner! Just let them go! The Highlands are really lovely but unfortunately the big developers have moved in and built hotels which do not reflect the natural surroundings. I don't know why you'd want to stay in these places anyway as you could be anywhere...the rooms all look pretty much the same the world over!

The place was not too much to our expectation - I was expecting Camerons to be cool and nice - the afternoons were hot but not as bad as on the ground level temperature. My family and I pretty much explored the place with our car and we found some interesting places to see and some dissapointing ones - the Strawberry Farm was a real disappointment. The Honey bee farm was great. Shopping for fresh vegetables early in the morning was beyond our expectation and it was a real bargain. Eating out was kinda expensive in most restaurants we found but there were a couple of them with reasonable prices. A great tip - talk to the locals - they have great advice to give (with a smile) especialy on where to shop for vegetables and places to eat at a reasonable price.
The trip to Boh Tea plantation great. Though the road to the Boh Plantation and Tea house can be unnerving especially for a car driver like me with a baby onboard but the reward at the end of the trip was worth it. I especialy enjoyed having tea with muffins on the patio of the tea house overlooking the plantation.

Driving from Tapah will take at least 1 1/2 hours and the road has lots of hair pin curves. Driver needs to be alert at all times, and slow down for heavy trucks from the opposite directions as the road is very narrow at some parts. Horn if neccessary. Must go - Gunung Brinchang, Sungai Palas Estate (Boh Tea Estate), Ye Olde Smokehouse.

We travelled from Kuala Lumpur by car and the journey took approximately 3 hours. After leaving the motorway the road to the Cameron Highlands, it was very winding and very busy with heavy lorries and buses along with cars.
After booking into the hotel we went on to Tanah Rata and took a tour which took us to the summit of Gunung Brinchang, on a short jungle trek and round the Boh Tea Plantation. The guide was very knowledgeable and made it very interesting. We ate in the Lakehouse Hotel and the meal was excellent.

Good place for a slow pace holiday, steam boat dinner is cheap with quality serving, fantastic on a cool evening (22 degree C). No night life there so not suitable for party animals, pls bring a book to read when you are there.

We enjoyed cool air and a lot of flowers. Also we enjoyed tea with nice scone or shortbread at many place. Picking own strawberry at Equatorial Strawberry farm is enjoyable for children. If you come from Europe, you can see unique tropical trees and life of aborigine but not so much tropical feeling.
