A very nice spot to spend a few days in the middle of the jungle, observing monks in saffron robes and their temples...

We loved Luang Prabang. A perfect place to walk around. So much to see and so unspoilt. We organised a boat trip ourselves with the boat men who have their own boats on the river. This was very sucessful. Lots of really good small eating places, with good local and international food. Bangkok Airways are wonderful, good food good service.

One day is enough to see the sites of Vientiane. Interesting temples, easy to get around. Restaurants very good, especially Le Vendome and La Terrasse.

Use the local resturants - most tourists sit at the "Western" resaturants. The Lao springroll is, as one example, different and taste excellent.
Vientiane is small enough to cover it by foot - do that and you will discover so much more.

Our visit to Luang Prabang, in spite of our bad experience at the hotel, was fabulous. We loved the Muong Market, the sites, and the people. We used a tuk-tuk to get us to the waterfall and hired a boat for the river trip.

Most people visit Vientiane on their way to Luang Prabang. However, Vientiane holds its own place in history and stops to Wat Sisaket, the Morning Market, and the banks of the mighty Mekong River should not be missed. There are several excellent world class restaurants such as Le Opera and the Nam Phu Bar and Restaurant. Vientiane can and should be experienced in two to three days.

No much to see, try to eat in one of the restaurant on Mekong river, good food and very good value for money. There is on Sunday a very nice open market in front of the hotel where you can buy nice wood table very cheap.

A very laid-back and friendly athmosphere. Since I had made no tour bookings on beforehand, I got a proposal to take a trip with a riverboat (+taxi) to the waterfalls to the south. Nice trip on the river, taxi drive through a rural landscape and beautiful waterfalls. 20 US dollars to the boatman (who also went with me to the waterfalls) and 30 000 KIP to the taxi driver - maybe a somewhat stiff price for one person?
