Stayed at  MiCasa All Suite Hotel - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Use the LRT for all connections. It is quick, clean and comfortable. For Genting, take the LRT to Putra Gombak and then the regular bus shuttle that starts every half hour for RM 25 including skyway and outdoor theme park tickets. Must visit the Bird Park and the Butterfly park-especially if you have kids. Use a taxi for these two places: about RM 50 return with waiting included. Nothing much at the Batu caves-can be missed. For shopping: KLCC for big brand names, Mid Valley mall for regular stuff. Take LRT to Bangsar station and then the regular free shuttle to Mid Valley Mall.

Stayed at  Cititel Penang - Penang, Malaysia.
We only stayed one night but location was good and close to some british bars which was handy and also short walk to china town and also Komtar which is a large super mall with everything you would want to find in there.

Stayed at  Langkawi Village Resort - Langkawi, Malaysia.
Langkawi is a great island and it is very cheap to hire a car or moped for the day and explore. The roads are very quiet so it is very easy to get around. Places I would recommend to see is the cable car which is very high but you get fantastic views. There are a few shops and coffee shops there too. The waterfalls are worth a visit but they are not really in full flow during dry season. Underwater world is also excellent place and there is also duty free shopping right next door. Another good duty free shopping place is in Kuah with shops there that sell lots of souveniers. There are lots of beach/sea activities in Langkawi with jet skiing, paragliding etc.

There are lots of restaurants to visit I would recommend The Lighthouse and The Beach Garden Resort where you can either have your dinner sitting out on the beach or inside. another good place is The Matahari. They all do a great choice of Asian and Western food but the Lighthouse is my very favourite place. There is also a good choice of local food stalls which are cheaper but they also have excellent food. A great place to drink and stay out until the early hours is Champor Champor. The Coco Jam Nightclub is another lively place which is at Langkawi Village Resort. It doesn't really get going though until after 1am!! Langkawi is also a fantastic place to just switch off, relax and do nothing at all but soak up the sun, laze on the beach and have a dip in the sea. Its fantastic!!

Stayed at  Sheraton Langkawi Beach Resort - Langkawi, Malaysia.
Must rent a car on arrival. They don't check any documents, only want the full rent upfront. Rented a aircon Proton Wira for RM 40 per day. Fuel is only about RM 1.5 per litre. The roads are good, wide and have hardly any traffic. Well lighted, sign posted so driving is not a problem. The island hopping/coral island tours are cheaper at the Awana Porto Malai. Reach there by 9AM if you want a tour the same day. Bargaining works, especially with the non-hotel ferry owners. (We got the island hopping tour for RM 25 per head).

Stayed at  JW Marriott Hotel Kuala Lumpur - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Visited KL many times and never tire of it. Try and get up to the skybridge at Petronas towers (go early for ticket) and eat in restaurant up the KL tower. Stunning view. Also visit Bangsar area for good bars and restaurants. Beware taxi drivers who don't switch on meter and then ask you for crazy figure. Tell them to switch on meter or agree a price before starting.

Stayed at  Holiday Villa Cherating - Pahang, Malaysia.
Must visit The Shadow of the Moon bar which is next to Residence Inn. You can ask Steven to specially prepare dinner for your group - he will buy the freshest ingredients on the day and cook a great meal. Order the steamed fish and wild boar curry. Amie's Cafe is great for breakfast.

Stayed at  Puri Melaka, Hotel - Melaka (Malacca), Malaysia.
We took the town bus (17) from melaka bus station directly to clock tower. Over there famous are the chicken rice ball. I will encourage ppl to eat the chicken rice balls from "zhong hwa" and "li ji" instead of the famosa as the above mentioned two are highly recommended by the local ppl there while famosa is actually more expensive. The famous chendol by the clock tower wasn't as nice as expected. Basically can travel round the melaka town by WALKING though will take some time but at least it's walkable. The routes are the same, after a few times, you will basically memorise all the route. Though they say melaka is very small, nothing much to do, can finish in 1 day. But I feel that though there are limited options in the town area but will need around 2 days to fully tour their town area which includes Stadhudys, mahkota shopping centre, perakan museum etc.

Stayed at  Puri Melaka, Hotel - Melaka (Malacca), Malaysia.
This is my second time back to the ancient city Melaka. We opted to stay at Hotel Puri due to its fantastic location along Heeren Street - reputed to be the oldest street in Melaka. It's close proximity to Jonkers' Street, the historical district & Mahkota Parade Shopping Mall means savings on Taxis cost to these places. The traveller would like to note that travelling by taxi within the town is expensive at a whopping RM10 even for short trips. The bus terminal have been shifted to Melaka Central, at the northern end of the town. We paid for RM 15 for our taxi trip to Hotel Puri. Other than that, it was a fantastic trip as we spent time exploring the historic places that Melaka has to offer.

Stayed at  Renaissance, Kuala Lumpur Hotel - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Kuala Lumpur, or KL as it is commonly known is a vibrant city offering a mix of modern and colonial arquitecture, shopping malls offering a full range of Designer goods plus good value general merchandise. For a good deal and fun bartering, a visitor should visit Petaling Street in China Town and for Indian food and souvenirs, head to Brickfields and for some delicious Malay food in a friendly welcoming atmosphere, try to find the Al-Ansar restaurant in Setapak (you may need to ask a taxi driver - I was lucky to be taken there by Malay friends). Any trip to KL should include visits to KLCC and the Petronas Twin Towers, KL Tower, Batu Caves, the National Zoo (Zoo Negara) and Sunway Lagoon.

M Egan 22 March 2005
Stayed at  Crown Jewel Hotel - Penang, Malaysia.
Whilst wandering the night markets, don't be tempted to cross the road to the big club with the dolphin statue thingies out the front. We noticed some cultural show happening on stage so went in for a look. No cover charge to get in, but what prices for a drink was absolutely ridiculous.
