E Fabian 14 March 2005
Stayed at  Beijing New Century Hotel - Beijing, China.
Enjoyed the Great Wall Tour but not so much the Jade and Chinese Herbal Medicine factory. The tomb's were great too. Our tour guide was very informative. The pancakes out the front of the Ice Skating Centre were delicious. Would highly recommend them.

I Marcouse 09 March 2005
Stayed at  Sheraton Guilin Hotel - Guilin, China.
I'd say forget Guilin completely. The reasons for coming to this area are all in Yangshuo. As visibility was lousy when we were there, we opted out of the overpriced river cruise and went by bus from Guilin to Yangshuo. Stayed at the wonderful Paradise hotel (very cheaply) and hired bikes to get out and see the gorgeous countryside. Buses go cheaply to different local villages - and enable you to see more of the centuries-old way of life. Wonderful.

K Campbell-coutts 06 March 2005
Stayed at  Panorama Century Court Shanghai, The - Shanghai, China.
Taxis best way to travel - everything very central and easily understandable. Never leave your hotel without a destination card written in chinese and alternately, have your hotel card with you at all times. Shopping excellent. Dine at one of the Grand Hyatt hotels as a highlight - spectacular view and excellent service. The Huadong Hospital has fast and efficient English speaking doctors. Antibiotics are dispensed there by the doctor for one small fee. Air Pollution is exhorbitant so wear a mask while touring to save your chest.

W De mol 03 March 2005
Stayed at  Lu Song Yuan Hotel - Beijing, China.
We took a taxi to the Great Wall (Simatai) for about 500 yuan (it was expensive, but it was worth every yuan). Trip takes about 8 hours, so leave early (I would say about 8 or 9 am).

D Devlin 02 March 2005
Stayed at  Radisson Plaza Xing Guo - Shanghai, China.
Always visit the Face bar in the Rui Jin Bing Guan off of Mao Ming Lu while in Shanghai.

S Codrington 28 February 2005
Stayed at  Harmony Hotel - Beijing, China.
There is a direct bus between Beijing Railway Station and the airport if you don't walking a few hundred metres to the hotel. The bus costs Y16 per person, and a taxi costs about Y85 including the expressway toll. If you need to catch a taxi, the Chinese name for the hotel is the Hua Mei Lun Jiudian.

D Ross 22 February 2005
Stayed at  Grand New World Hotel - Xian, China.
I highly recommend using Clarence Quo for an all-day or half day tour of the terracotta warriors and Xi'an. He can be found at taxitours.com. He is very reasonable, accommodating, and speaks excellent English. He offers tours to areas not usually available through the standard organizations.

J Ghazarian 11 February 2005
Stayed at  Haitao Hotel Guangzhou - Guangzhou, China.
The location is not convenient but accessible if you can spare the time. There is a Netbar across the street 2 Yuan/hour after midnight, otherwise 6 Yuan. One can catch Bus No. 2 (fare 2 Yuan) from a bus station after a 10 minute walk north which will take you to Beijing Lu, a big hub for shoppers. Return bus is No 194 (fare 1 Yuan). Bank of China is a 5 minute walk away (east) for currency exchange. The hotel location is out of the tourist tracks so one must feel his/her way thru in order to feel relaxed and confident as English is spoken next to none.

K Anita nilsson 26 January 2005
Stayed at  Lu Song Yuan Hotel - Beijing, China.
For 600 RMB we had a taxi the whole day and went to the Great Wall, the Ming Tombs and the Sacred Way. The Palace museum, Tiananmen Square, Temple of Heaven, Yonghegong (Lamasery of Harmony of Peace) were other interesting places we had time to visit. Be aware of the men who offer you a taxi from the airport for to much money. Use only taxis with taximeters.

G Collett 17 January 2005
Stayed at  Guilin Bravo Hotel - Guilin, China.
Guilin is a tourist city, with higher prices than normal for China, but it is worth the trip for the Li Jiang boat tour. Seven Star Park is also worth a visit if you have extra time on your hands. It is walkable city with 1.3 million residents.
