We missed bus tours for tourists. But the tours made by taxis were very cheap and very interesting. We visited places like the "End of the Earth", Monkey Islet, the "Nantian Hot Springs", the "Nanshan Cultural Center", the "Nangshan Dongtian Tourism Zone", the "Li and Miao Village", etc.

Credit card is not popular in Hainan island. You have to bring enough cash. They do not accept credit card. Visitors have to pay for entrance fee for all the sight seeing places. It costs $60-&100Yen. You can not cover all the places if you do not carry enough cash as you have to pay entrance fee before you can visit the places. Too bad!

I have tried quite a number of restaurants in Daidonghai of Sanya. For variety, cost and quality, the Chinese restaurant in Landscape Seaview Hotel excels many others. For travelling around, a day hire of taxi or chauffer-driven car is the most ideal way of travel. Compared with metered taxi, the daily car hire rate is extraordinarily cheap - RMB 160 for about 7 hours, which covers well over 100 km. One way taxi ride to the airport is already RMB 70+.

The restaurant of Sheraton, Spice world, close to the place is very good, with large choice of good wines. The Buterfly museum close to Yalong bay is old fashioned - more dead buterflies than live ones. Good place to rest for 5 days, with huge beaches and changing skies!

Sanya is an absolutely beautiful place to visit and I would recommend it highly to friends (even though the flight was very expensive for an hour long journey!). The unfortunate thing also is that the resorts are located a fair distance from many of the sights and/or the city if you wanted to go to a restaurant, bar or shopping.
Although this trip was merely a "rest and relaxation" vacation for me, there are so many things to do and see. The only places I visited were: the beach, the pearl factory, and a silk factory. I did not know where to find any restaurants in the vicinity and found myself at the "Holiday Inn" just down the road for some very good "Western" food!
At the Holiday Inn, I met a gentleman who was part of a travel & tourism service and he was willing to show me around and suggest things to see---I found this useful to me. Across the street from the Cactus Hotel is a "Butterfly Park" and just down the road is "Underwater World" so there are a few attractions in walking distance.

The Sanya Sheraton offers very good food, try the Pan-Asian restaurant. The diving faclities at the Holiday Inn are OK, but one has to make very clear what it is you want. E.g deep diving, how much time and where. If you get the communication clear then it will be arranged. Very helpful and friendly.

The hotel is at the end of a bay lined with other hotels but there is space between each.
Right next door on the beach is the ticket office and pier for Underwater World where you can book trips to go snorkelling, fishing, sightseeing in a glass bottom boat amongst other things.
Can't comment on what else there is to do as we didn't leave the hotel the entire weekend other than a walk along the beach.

We walked around the area looking for something to do and didn't find much available. Visited Sanya and was very disappointed. Used the shuttle service which was a bit of a fight to get on. (Why don't they use a pre-booking service the day before?) Didn't know how to get from the airport to the hotel so used an expensive taxi. Such information should be made available when making the reservation.
