One place to visit in Nanchang is the Qing Yun Pu Gallery - or, by its other name, the Ba Da Shan Ren Memorial Hall. Ba Da Shan Ren was a renowned painter and calligrapher who lived in Nanchang and this place holds a certain dilapidated charm - it is on the outskirts though and if you are not familiar with taking public transport in China, having a taxi driver wait for you is recommended.
Another suggestion: don't confine your visit to just seeing the Teng Wang Ge Pavilion on the banks of the Gan River; take a walk along the riverside and enjoy the mountainous backdrop to the new developments in construction on the other side of the river.
Nanchang does not have all that much to offer in terms of sightseeing, however if you are interested in the city's biggest claim to fame, pay a visit to the Memorial Hall of the Nanchang Uprising (August 1, 1927) - it does exude a certain 'revolutionary' charm still and is one thing every Chinese school child learns and knows about Nanchang.
