So many things have changed in the last five years. The Baan Thai is a nice Thai restaurant.

Phnom Penh is not very interesting, but it is nice to run along the river in the morning and eat there in the evening. The Riverhouse restaurant is excellent. I drove to Koh Kong enroute back to Thailand. The road was OK and it was fun to take four ferry rides (100 baht each) and see part of Cambodia where the Thai baht is more useful than dollars. Otto's was a great restaurant in Koh Kong.

Walked, took motorcycle taxis and got driven around by a friend's friend. Didn't want to be stuck in a hired car--too impersonal. The hotel could provide some info on how easy it is to get around the city. FCC was a good place to eat, and the food at the restaurant next to the New York hotel was delicious.

I really liked Phnom Penh. There are a lot of things to do, like the museum and Royal Palace, as well as somewhat more sobering activities such as S-21 prison and the Killings Fields. Even walking the streets and markets is a delightful experience and a feast for the senses. We spent about 8 days all up there.

Phnom Penh is a good gateway to Cambodia, the city itself is a mess, with unpaved road and storms of moped everywhere, but it really makes you feel in South East Asia. To go around, you must rely on mopeds-taxi or similar, but it is part of the fun.

The hotel organized a driver for the day at a cost of $US30. We visited the 'Killing Fields,' S-21 prison, Grand Palace, Russian Market, and National Museum. Within walking distance of the hotel is a good pharmacy, plus a number of internet cafes.

PP is worth a few days and visit the Killing Fields (the road out there is full of potholes) and the Museum, the Russian Markets and the Pagoda. The walk along the riverbank is also pleasant. The FCC serves good food and is a nice spot for a cocktail.

In Phnom Penh not so much attractive place to visit, you would better quickly move to Siem Reap.

Only spent a day here - visited Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda, Russian Market, and Central Market. Central Market was the nicer market of the two. Rented a car through the hotel (US$13 for half day, new SUV with driver).

Recommended Khmer Restaurant close to hotel: Ponlok on Sissowath Quay (about USD 2 taxi ride).
Worthwhile place to visit while in Phnom Penh: Russian Market (a whole lot better than Central market) - about USD 2-3 taxi ride from hotel.
Getting around: Remember to negotiate taxi fare before the start of your journey - it usually cost USD 2-3 per ride.. or USD 2-3 per hour.
