Angkor Wat is incredible in all aspects. But there are several things you should be aware of before you open your mouth of this historic wonder:
The boat to Siem Reap can be suffering. Stay close to the head of the boat, either in the cabin or on the roof. No one warned me before, as a result, I had only half my hearing for the afternoon after I arrived.

Be aware of seemingly kind gesture, helping you this and that, everything has a price tag afterwards.

These are just some minor tips, you will enjoy the trip in general, relics, shopping, dining, talking and gesturing to the locals.

Try the Le Deauville restaurant near the Sunway hotel. It's very good.

N Ghee 02 February 2003
Stayed at  Tai Seng Hotel - Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Hotel is facing Monivong blvd which is a main thoroughfare but that means it's quite far from the downtown area (Russian market, Royal Palace etc) it is also quite far from the 'pub' street which is Sisowath Quay fronting the river. Having said that a room at the same price along Sisowath has worse facilities than Tai Seng due to the prime Sisowath location (e.g. Sunshine hotel) in that sense it is value for money. It is also about 20 to 30 min away from Pochentong airport, like most hotels are.

Angkor Wat is good, Phnom Penh is normal. It's good to travel by speed boat to and from Angkor, fast and more exciting, I took the bus to Siam Reap, it's just terrible, the road condition is bad, but it's good for people have a lot of time and want to save money on the transportation.

Stayed at  Cambodiana Hotel - Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Phnom Penh worth a visit of 2 or 3 days to be immersed in the city. Check the National Museum, the market and the promenade along the Mekong river. Do multiple rides on the cyclopouss, in the city small and large street. This is a good way to appreciate the city at the right pace.

Stayed at  Cambodiana Hotel - Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Phnom Penh itself did not have a lot to offer as a tourist attraction. We visited the prison which housed prisoners during the regime of the Khmer Rouge and also one of the killing fields. Both were sombre places to visit and we were asked why the rest of the world just watched it happen. Mittapheap Tours organised our transports and visits for us and I can thoroughly recommend them.

Cambodia is a lovely place to visit. Food is good, people are very friendly and nice, and seem quite genuine. The beggars can be off-putting but since the Cambodian economy is still struggling, that is understandable. Definitely worth going back to.

Stayed at  Regent Park Hotel - Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
I recommend staying at the Sunway hotel which is clean, has good size rooms, and was a great value for the price.

S Rosalino 25 January 2003
Stayed at  Raffles Hotel Le Royal - Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Plenty to do in town and people were friendly all over.

S Sayers 21 January 2003
Stayed at  Sunway Hotel Phnom Penh - Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
We visited most of the local sights in Phonm Pehn. The only bit of advice I can offer is to not use the hotels taxi as there are very very very expensive.
