P Hsiao 05 January 2005
Stayed at  Y Hotel, The - Sydney, Australia.
If you are going from Sydney to melbourne, or from melbourne to sydney, there's a tour for 195 australian dollars for 3.5 days, which takes you from one city to another, and visit places along the way. It's a great way to save time and money instead of booking tours separately for some of the places and also includes the transport cost from one city to the other. I only knew about it after I already purchased the grey hound bus tickets (60dollars one way).

Stayed at  York Apartment Hotel, The - Sydney, Australia.
From the York Apartments we were able to walk everywhere. Zolies Restaurant (York Apartments) was closed but the adjacent Corus Hotel was very good value for money for dinner. What else can be said about Sydney during New Years Eve other than outstanding.

J Comrie-taylor 30 December 2004
Stayed at  Swiss Grand Resort & Spa Bondi Beach - Sydney, Australia.
I would not recommend Bondi Beach at Xmas as after 22.00HRS there is nothing and no alcohol is served. Furthermore the service at the cafes and eateries along Bondi was shocking (excluding Icebergs and NAM)- from the staffs attitude and lazinesss you would think that the food and drinks were FREE! Sydney Kings Cross (Heaven) was only a taxi ride away (15 Dollars) So I would recommend getting a hotel downtown and doing the day trip. When in Sydney - Tank, Icebergs, Hugos, The Sheaf, The White Horse, ARC and Columbian are a must!

Stayed at  Quay West Resort Bunker Bay - Margaret River Wine Region, Australia.
The destination is unbeatable in the south-west. Bunker bay is a beautiful beach, quiet & secluded. Yet the resort is also close to the charismatic dunsborough and Margaret Rivers wonderful wine region. A car is a must to get around and see what there is to offer. Amberley winery for lunch, or the bootleg brewery are a must for lunch!

A Robinson 23 December 2004
Stayed at  Desert Gardens Hotel - Ayers Rock, Australia.
The sun was obscured by cloud during the sunrise visit to Uluru, however the spiritual experience was amazing and the guided tour of the rock was very good. Visits to the Aboriginal Cultural Centre and the information centre in the resort were also worthwhile. Restaurants in the resort were good quality and value.

M Mclean 22 December 2004
Stayed at  Outback Pioneer Ayers Rock - Ayers Rock, Australia.
Australian Pacific Tours were great and very friendly co-ordinator, tour guides very knowledgable about Uluru and Kata Juta. The shuttle bus circling the Yulara village was a godsend in the intense heat. I was visiting for Xmas in Bundaberg with family and have always wanted to come to Uluru, a kind of pilgrimage to the people who believe in caring for the land and all its creatures. I would recommend going to Uluru in the winter months June/July. Visitor centre and shops all offered information on Aboriginal culture that I was particularly interested in.

Stayed at  De Vere Hotel - Sydney, Australia.
We stayed in Sydney for 48 hours before driving toward Gold Coast and Brisbane. I enjoyed the near 1000km drive. We did 400km on the first leg, stay over night at a motel in a little town Kempsey, then move on the next morning. We rented a car with GPS, so I did not have to worried about getting lost, it also helped me to find some points of interest or shopping arcades. My whole family enjoyed the trip. I would recommend this to people who enjoy driving long distance to try it. We explored many beautiful spots on the way.

D Reedman 08 December 2004
Stayed at  New Esplanade Hotel - Perth, Australia.
A new rail link from Mandurah to the city is being built and there will be some traffic disruption while this work is in progress. While in Perth I also visited Kalbarri in the north; a very quiet and peaceful holiday resort,a place where you can really get away from it all. It is popular for fishing and sightseeing in the Kalbarri National Park. A trip well worth making.

Service in restaurants can be poor at times, but one I would recommend is The Greek on James Street in Northbridge where you will find a Greek nouvelle cuisine type of eating. If you are staying in Perth for at least a week it is worth buying a MultiRider ticket for travel on buses and trains, available for 10 or 40 trips. This card is due to be replaced later this year by a SmartRider card which can be topped up with extra funds direct from your bank account or, I believe, by additional cash payments at the TransPerth travel offices. I found public transport safe and reliable, and used it mainly for travelling to the beach at Swanbourne (30 minutes by bus from Perth city centre) which is also the local nudist beach.

Stayed at  Outback Pioneer Ayers Rock - Ayers Rock, Australia.
The best way to get around is to rent a car. Surprising, car rentals are quite inexpensive, compared to hotel costs (I paid about AUD$50 for a day, including taxes, to rent from AVIS at the airport, which is about the same as Sydney or Melbourne area). A lot of people take bus tours, which cost a lot more.

J Williams 24 November 2004
Stayed at  Batchelor Resort - Litchfield, Australia.
Batchelor out-of-season, viz, in the Wet, is extremely quiet. There are no obvious restaurants - you have to ask the locals for advice. We ate at the on-site restaurant at the Jungle Drum Bungalows, and it was excellent -- very Ernest Hemingway, very tropical. Last orders were at about 8.30pm - everything in the Top End shuts early!! The food was cooked fresh to order, so it's best not to be in a hurry. And the red wine was served chilled - it's "the way we do it" in the Top End. Hmmmm!
