Stayed at Kingsgate Hotel - Melbourne, Australia.
|
We walked a lot, revisited St. Kilda and Botanic Gardens. Did spend an inordinate amount of time waiting for the free circular tram, and on several occasions after waiting for nearly 30 minutes walked to where we wanted to visit.

Stayed at Best Western Earlington Hotel - Launceston, Australia.
|
The Great Northern is perfectly situated within walking access to the shops and some good resturants. We enjoyed a meal at "Cantina" which is an Italian resturant nearby, but our favourite one was Hallam's seafood on the river. Taxi drivers are extremely courteous and helpful.

Stayed at Kewarra Beach Resort - Cairns Beaches, Australia.
|
Port Douglas is within easy reach, we took the Quicksilver tour to the Great Barrier Reef, very nice with lots of activities off of a pontoon once you get to the reef. Palm Cove is also a nearby town which is worth a visit for dinner (about 10 minutes by car), the resort offers free shuttle. The local night zoo is recommended, delicious dinner and a visit with all the animals up close and personal, great lively staff, with dancing and all the free alcohol you can consume.

Stayed at York Apartment Hotel, The - Sydney, Australia.

We did the hop on hop off bus - great fun. Nice easy walk to the Rocks Sunday market and performance at the Opera House on Sat. night. The kitchen made it very convenient to eat breakfast at home and we even at a couple of evening meals "at home".

Stayed at Metro Sydney Hotel - Sydney, Australia.
|
We walked a lot which turned out not to be a bad thing! The monorail around the city is good. Darling Harbour and The Rocks are a must. For those motorcyclists among you - the tour on a Harley D. or on a tricycle is a must. We did a 3hr tour and saw some beautiful beaches well worth another visit in the future!

Stayed at Waterfront Wynyard Motor Inn - Burnie, Australia.
|
We have been travelling through whole Tasmania, and we found particularly Wynyard very special. The most of the time we have spent in Launceston, because the south of Tasmania was quite windy and unusually could.

Stayed at Y Hotel, The - Sydney, Australia.

Sydney - get the free guide books available at the customs hall if flying. Start with a trip up the tower in the middle of the CBD to get your bearings and then do what you fancy. Little gems are the fish market, Star City Casino (very friendly esp. for amateurs) the Oaks Pub in Neutral Bay. Public transport is great and taxis are reasonable however unusally for a major city it is pretty easy to drive around if you hire a car.

Stayed at Rendezvous Stafford Hotel Sydney - Sydney, Australia.
|
I had gotten a tip from a fellow traveller about the Anderson Bus Tour - Blue Mountain Region (ask for David). The tour was excellent. Other musts are a tour of the Opera House, Circular Quay, Darling Harbor and of course, George St. Eateries are plentiful and many of the cafe type. Plan to spend time at the outdoor market at The Rocks on Saturday. The pace is leisurely (I did a lot of walking) and the Australians enjoy the sunny outdoors.

Stayed at Sofitel Brisbane - Brisbane, Australia.
|
Brisbane while nice does not call out to be explored. However as a point to access the Goldcoast and Sunshine Coast, it can't be beaten. Also a very liveable city.
