Stayed at  Tanjung Rhu Resort - Langkawi, Malaysia.
The Mangrove tour is highly recommended. Good value as quite a few things were packed into the itinerary. We managed to secure a boat all to ourselves (3 of us) so we could stay longer or skip certain places. We were also lucky enough to see dolphins. Rent a car and tour Langkawi on your own as there are other interesting shops to see which tours don't cover. Check out the stalls at Beras Terbakar where you can get cheaper T-shirts (RM4 each) and the cable car ride is fascinating. Quite a challenge for those with vertigo (like myself!) as the ride gets quite steep.

Langkawi offers good value for money. Even the expensive places are relatively affordable. We would suggest renting a car at the airport to explore the island with. The duty free shopping wasn't all it was cracked up to be in our opinion. A few nice little shops in Kuah, but the prices of electronics weren't any better than an electronics superstore in Canada, we found. Water and beaches were amazing in Cenang.

Cable car worth a visit, fantastic views. Public beach on road out to the Datai was excellent, lots of local families and a wonderful, relaxed atmosphere. Night market along canal in Kuah on Saturday nights is great, marvellous food, bargains galore, and very atmospheric. Eat as much as possible at the hawker stalls, in our experience they were cheaper, tastier, and what the travel thing should be all about.

Stayed at  Pelangi Beach & Spa Resort - Langkawi, Malaysia.
We stayed at the hotel pool for most of our visit as it was too nice to leave. We did go on a sunset cruise which was fabulous and we did go shopping in the main shopping area but we weren't really impressed with the shops.

Stayed at  Kampung Tok Senik Resort - Langkawi, Malaysia.
Langkawi has beautiful white sandy beaches and we enjoyed the watersports such as Parasailing (RM80) and the banana boat ride (RM30) at Cabana Beach. You should take the new cable car ride up and see bird's eye view of Lankawi at only RM15. It's a steal.

We also loved the ecological tour that brought us to bat caves, viewing of flying foxes, fish feeding in the Ocean, mangrove swamps with cute little colourful crabs and the best of all, EAGLE FEEDING right in front of us! There are probably 50-100 eagles swooping to get the food.

Food and batik are in abundance in Langkawi but probably not the place for shopaholics unless you are into chocolate. We were lucky to visit the 1km long night market at Kuah Town. It only operates on Wed and Sat from 6pm onwards.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Langkawi and intend to return for fishing trips and snokelling with more people in the near future.

Hired a car for RM50 per day at the airport. You can drive around Langkawi Island fairly easily without getting lost. Went on the Cable Car, but unfortunately due to the smokey skies at the time, it wasn't a very good view. Went shopping in Kuah, some great bargains to be had.

R Motomura 24 March 2003
Stayed at  Casa Del Mar - Langkawi, Malaysia.
Restaurants around the Hotel Casa Del Mar were nice. We enjoyed shopping at DFS inside the Underwater world. We explored Langkawi by car (we rented) one day. We drove to beautiful beaches where we saw no people except for us (on that day), and enjoyed dining and shopping in Downtown. And it was simply a great trip!

The island of Langkawi unfortunately did not give us a very good impression. There was a lot of rubbish thrown out everywhere along the streets. People just didn't seem to care about their environment. This made me sad, because the island really was beautiful, but all the rubbish made it look ugly.

Anyway, if you want to buy some electronic equpiment, this is a good place to do it. Go to Khua Town and visit all of the shops in the central parts, they have a lot of nice handicraft shops too.

Some good restaurants I would like to recommend are T'Jays (Italian), they had the best pizza I have ever tasted, and The Eagle's nest with exceptionally good steaks. Both of them are at Pantai Tengha and Pantai Cenang. They also had a lot of good Malaysian and Indian food along those two beaches (roads).

We also went to the northern part of the island, to Jang Rhua beach, because we had heard the water was supposed to be much more cleaner there. It wasn't. Sometimes it was so dirty it was impossible to see your own hand under the water surface. But the beach was much cleaner than Pantai Thenga and Pantai Cenang. From here we took a boat trip to see the Mangrove area and the eagle feeding area. We also had a look inside some caves and saw bats hanging upside down, sleeping. At the end of the day we were dropped off at a private island beach for an hour or two. Sadly this small island was as full of rubbish as Langkawi was and the water was the same.

We heard that the only place where everything was much more cleaner was up in the northwest part of Langkawi, around the Andaman Datai Hotel, which is a five star hotel (very expensive), but unfortunately we never went there to see if that was true.

Finally I would NOT recommend anyone to visit the Crocodile Farm or the Snake Farm if you are not interested to see poor unhappy animals taken from their natural environment into captivity and treated in a cruel way. Carola Lidström in Kiruna, Sweden.

Stayed at  City Bayview Langkawi - Langkawi, Malaysia.
I was working in a local school (MRSM Langkawi) and the hotel is very convenient for this. I also visited the shopping facilities and hawker stalls in Kuah.

Eagle Feading & Manglove tours are nice. It's was really nice. Langkawi is Duty free, but I recommend you to buy tobaccos in city area. The airport's DFS were little bit higher than city.
