We got around on the Star Ferry, the subway and taxis. We had no problem finding our way around. We enjoyed the Peking Garden Restaurant, which was near the hotel, for some delicious Chinese food. Be sure to make advance reservations and ask them to prepare Beggars Chicken in advance. We especially enjoyed going up to the Peak and also shopping at Stanley Market.

We took taxis, buses, the tram, and ferries. Because our son lives in the area, we had our own private tour guide. The Thai resturant in Pacific Place is excellent. We also enjoyed Jaspas in the SoHo area. Shopping in Stanley was fun and the Hong Kong History Museum is excellent!

We visited the outlying islands of Lamma and Cheung Chau. We also visited the Temple Street and Stanley Markets as well as other sites in Central and Wan Chai.
We enjoy walking in HK as well as taking local buses and trains but on this occasion used a considerable number of taxis and sampans.
On previous visits to Hong Kong we have visited Macau, and places in and around both Hong Kong and Kowloon and the New Territories.
Hong Kong has an effective transport system and when a person has familiarised themself with it the city and other areas are within easy reach.
Restaurants we visited included local Chinese Thai and Korean.

Recommend the Jade Market bargain hunting, local wet markets, Star Ferry. Get a Junk with friends and go for some local seafood in Lamma -- scary but fun.

Mostly local shops and restaurants - very few International Malls at North Point, but VERY handy for access to the rest of Hong Kong island. Best value for money.

Fun place, except for the SARS scare, but that did not worry me much. Very cheap food and clothes shopping in Stanley market.

Take a few hours and visit Lantau to see the big Buddha. It was well worth the trip. Before I arrived in HK I was told there wasn't much to do but I disagree. If you only stick to touristy things you'll be ready to leave in 2 days or so. I went off the tourist path & wandered aimlessly through the city & ended up extending my trip. Discos, shopping, tours to the islands, the jade market, the late night markets, the food, the easy use of the subway & the cheap cost of taxis, as well as, the friendliness of the people all made this trip worthwhile.

If you stay here the Ladies market is on your doorstep - also there are inexpensive friendly Chinese restaurants along this street. The subway station is also very good and only takes about 10 minuets to get to Hong Kong Island.
Temple street market, although a little bit of a disappointment, it was amusing to wander around and "bargain". The Jade Market is worth a look, as are the food stalls and markets nearby. This area makes a very interesting stroll through the backstreets and people here tend to much more laid back and friendly.
The further down Nathan Road you get the atmosphere completely changes, the art gallery, Pennisula hotel and of course the shops are all worth a look. The area around the Star ferry terminal offers great views of Hong Kong Island - especially at night.
On Hong Kong island the main attraction is the peak, and it's worth paying that little extra to eat in one of the restaurants and watch the night view. The area Wan Chai and La Kwai Fong offer good night entertainment.

Times Square is an excellent place to go shopping. Lan Kwai Fong is full of bars and restaurants where you can sit and watch the world go by. The MTR subway and Airport Express are very efficient and clean and well worth using if you are traveling around a lot.
