Langkawi is a beautiful place to be. Hire a bike. It is the cheapest & best way to get around with a map in hand.Good food at all the restaurants on the Tenga-Chenang beach strech. Hot Wok, Orkid Ria, Changloon,Imperial Thai, Fat Mums, all have superb food (especially sea food) at amazingly low prices. The half day island hopping tour is wonderful. Wish they would make it Full day !Pulau Payar Marine park is a must see for the diving & snorkelling (my first time...it was magical) Don't be put off by the advertised prices. You can get a tour for Rm 60 with pick-up & drop-off. Only the cold packed lunch sucks...so take you own !The 7 wells water falls are overrated. Ditto Duty free shopping. But Langkawi is Amazingly beautiful. A must Go !!!!

Renting a car is easily available as we did rented our locally made car "Iswara" ad drove around Langkawi. Places visited were the Water Falls, the Hot Spring Village and I must say the Kedah State Govt should do something to maintain these places in order to attract more tourist as noticed these places are very dry. Beaches visited are located at the Tanjung Rhu, Awana Porto Malai, The Andaman Datai.

Recommended beaches and hotel to stay is The Andaman Datai which have all the range of facilities like swimming pool, clean beach, saunna, jacuzzi, restaurants and ballrooms for meetings and etc.

Langkawi is a beautiful place to visit, the island hopping tour is worth a visit, but watch out for the monkeys!

Langkawi is a beautiful place to visit. The best way to move around is by hiring a car. There are a number of places to visit which are very easy to get to. Maps and other information is easily and readily available.

Langkawi offers the visitor a real taste of laid-back rural Malaysia as well as beautiful beaches and stunning coastal scenery. Getting around is easy - the Kg. Tok Senik staff are happy to arrange taxis and there are also a number of in-house options including a minivan, a 'limo' and the only London taxi on the island!

We took a taxi to Pantai Cenang and spent a relaxing day on the beach, although we could have opted for various activities such as jet-skiing, paragliding or island-hopping if we had felt the need to be more active. On our last full day we hired a Kancil and explored the rest of the island. First we went north and took a stroll along the beach at Tanjung Rhu, then west to check out the facilities at The Datai, finally heading 'home' via Burau Bay in the south. Later that evening we drove to the Casa del Mar at Pantai Cenang for dinner on the terrace overlooking the beach. The food, described as 'Western/Japanese fusion', was of a high standard, the service was fast and efficient and I had a very enjoyable meal in a picturesque setting.

As our flight was scheduled for late afternoon the next day, we requested and were readily granted a late checkout at no extra charge, so we extended our car hire and drove to the main town, Kuah. Unfortunately it was raining so we spent most of our time there in the shopping centre, but were pleasantly surprised to find a good selection of quality handicrafts which were a definite cut above the usual 'tourist tat'one often finds in such places. All in all we enjoyed our trip and Langkawi is a place I am sure we will visit again.

We didn't find out until we go there that a renting a car/scooter is the best way to see the island. Make sure you bring your driver's license to do so (you don't need an international drivers' license). We loved this! We spent as much time in the various places as we wanted without having to be tied to a tour. You can't really do snorkeling this way, but this is how we went to see a lot of things, and just loved it.

The mangrove forest is a must. I had no idea before we came just how wonderful it would be. We felt like we were in the middle of a National Geographic episode. Make sure you bring fruit for the monkeys.

If not for the rental car that take us around, travelling around Langkawi is quite incovenience at times. With the rental car (quite expensive - Nissan Sentra cost Rm$110 daily as compare to JB), we travel around the islands visiting most of the luxurious hotel (like Andarman, Tanjung Rhu resort, Berjaya resort etc..) We also visit the Underwater world and Crocodile farm but nothing special, nice to visit some of the nice beaches along Pantai Cenang, Pantai Tengah, Pantai Kok, Pantai Tanhjung Rhu and Pantai Datai..when driving around deserted area like the Andaman Datai Bay , beware of narrow bend and one way road..quite scary when you are approaching the hotel whereby you have to drive up a deep curving slope...but the Andaman hotel offers very exotic tropical rainforest getaway..along mid way you can have a very nice view of the Pulau Dayang Bunting lake. We also visit the Eagle square and Lagenda Park at Jetty area, the Budaya Graft and Cultural Complex, Langkawi Crystal, Yacht Club and Air Hangat Village etc.. a pity that we miss the Pulau Payar Marine park due to kids with us may not be suitable...overrall quite enjoyable trip but whenever anything on Langkawi (e.g duty free shopping mall etc), they are talking sbout small scale type...you will not expect big shopping mall..and if you are drinker and smoker, beers are cheaper than mineral water and exercising of your lungs are very affordable.

Langkawi is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the sea. For those who want to move, it is very easy to book a car and go around the island that is small. I don't think there is any places for diving or snorkeling on the island, but you can still go to Pulau Payar where there are many wonderful fish.

Langkawi is a very nice island, however, as with the rest of Malaysia it does have some untidy and rundown areas albeit we have come to expect this. We hired a car to expore the island and visited the Crocodile farm which was very good. We did call to see the waterfall. Don't bother! You have to be a rock climber to get anywhere near, in fact it is dangerous!
