Stayed at  Swiss Garden Resort & Spa, Kuantan - Pahang, Malaysia.
Kuantan is a nice place to visit for a short holiday in east malaysia. They have nice beaches like Teluk chempedak for instance, where Hyatt Kuantan hotel is located. If you are staying at Swiss Garden, the beach infront of the hotel is not too bad either but the waves are rather strong for swimming. The Cherating Beach is another option. Salted fish, crispy cuttlefish (or sotong in malay), fish crackers and many other dried seafood are sold in abundance in the town of kuantan. Have a cup of coffee at Starbucks after shopping at the Megamall, one of the better shopping centres. Best to travel on foot around town and you get to see plenty of small shops selling batik design clothes at reasonable prices. Don't forget to bargain. If you are looking for cheap toiletries, clothing, shoes or slippers, try the Maideen store. Cheap but not necessarily good. Located near the stadium and within walking distance to Kuantan Parade, another shopping centre. Not too far from the stadium, at the Terminal Makmur, you could also catch coaches to various part of malaysia like Kota Baharu, Jerantut, Kuala Lumpur or even to Singapore. It only cost RM22.50 to Singapore On Transnasional. Daily at 2230hrs or 2300hrs and you arrive at Lavender Street (Singapore) at 0500hrs. For me Kuantan is best remembered for its beautiful beaches, hospitable people and great seafood.

Stayed at  Bintang Warisan Hotel - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
City tour (1/2 day) very informative. Batu Caves are OK, but if you've been to India and seem the real thing, then this won't phase you at all. Daytrip to Melacca was good. Line for Petronas tickets was outrageous, go to Menera (KL tower) instead, which is in Bukit Nanas park...it is a bit of a walk uphill, you can take a taxi if you like. You get a better view than from Petronas. Chinatown Petaling street was hectic...only visit there if you are serious about shopping imitation stuff. For food, walk around Jalan Sultan..for some cheap stuff (or Jalan Alor, if you are in Golden Triangle area). The walk on Jalan Pudu from Chinatown to Bukit Bintang was interesting, it goes past the large bus station, but what is better is that you get a real cross section of homey Kuala Lumpur, without the luxuries, you just see people on the street, small stores, restaurants, etc...very local...non touristy scene, for a different perspective. Also, visit Mederka square, so you can see where the British lived, and also you can take a look at the former Petronas Building (before the twin towers were built) The local transport in KL is very good, with the monorail, the trains, the buses, you should have no problem getting around.

Stayed at  Holiday Inn Kuching - Sarawak, Malaysia.
Worth visiting: Iban Longhouses, Bau caves, Jungle walk. Use the inhouse travel agency. They provide good consulting. Or use one of the many free agencies along Riverfront. And don't forget to see the official Tourist Info Office! They have more catalogues available, and they sell these beautiful, colorful vintage posters "Visit Borneo", 4 pieces, 20 Ringgit.

Stayed at  Eastern and Oriental Hotel - Penang, Malaysia.
We spent a month in Malaysia. 12 days on the East Coast and the remainder spread between Ferringi Beach, Penang, Langkawi and then the 5 nights in Georgetown. We just loved Georgetown and will definitely return. People friendly, shopping great (I enjoyed it better than KL), food FABULOUS, and the lovely old buildings some restored, lent to a great Asian atmosphere. The Colonial atmosphere, plus the Chinese, Malay and Indian architecture made it all so enjoyable. We will definitely return to Georgetown.

Stayed at  City Bayview Hotel Melaka - Melaka (Malacca), Malaysia.
We visited A Farmosa, Christ Church, Mahkota Shopping Centre and Jonkers Street. Jonkers Street is full of great bargains! A very unique night market with many interesting shophouses too!

Stayed at  Swiss Garden Resort & Spa Damai Laut - Damai Laut - Lumut, Malaysia.
We visited Pangkor. It's beautiful in a laid-back way, but does not really encourage day-tripping. Most of the ferry passengers zipped away to their self-contained resorts. The easiest way to see the whole place is to ask for a round-island trip at about RM40. There are few 'touristy' places, but the northern beaches are more quaint. A walk from the main town to Kampung Pinang Kechil (about 2 km) illustrates the rural way of life that still pervades the island. If you don't want to make the longish trip to Lumut, there's a beautiful beach called Tanjung Sinangin just north of the Swiss Garden Hotel. Where you would turn left for the final track to the resort, follow the road for another couple miles. Tg Senangin looks like a favourite with the locals.

Stayed at  Grand Continental Kuala Lumpur - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
KL is great. Go early to book the visit to the Skybridge, shop at MidValley. We hired a car from Orix, good machine, very reasonable price, got to drive to the Cameron Highlands. Road system (once you get out of KL itself) are excellent.

Stayed at  Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion - Penang, Malaysia.
Penang is a place not to miss. Please skip the beach, because there are much better ones in Malaysia and spend as much time as you can in the town. Great temples, old buildings and good food and if you are not staying in de Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion at least hop on a tour. Go to Penang as soon as possible, because it is changing fast. We have been there six years before and i is loosing charm rapidly. Altough it is still one of the most special places in Malaysia.

Stayed at  Hilton Kuching - Kuching, Malaysia.
If you visit Kuching, you must visit Bako National Park. The boat ride there must be one of the most beautiful in the world. The thoughtful boat man slowed down every time he saw me reach for my camera so that I could take a better photograph.

Stayed at  Dorsett Regency Hotel - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
KL is a happening place. Food, entertainment, culture, sight-seeing...all within travel distance. Suggest half day city tour to take in sights such as KL Tower with bird's eye view of the whole city, Twin Towers, Pewter & Batik factories, and a Chinese Temple (a lion dance practice session when we were there!). Lake Garden is nice scenic spot for the afternoon stroll and visit to the deer park and bird park, bring a picnic. A good place to visit just outside the city is Templer's park with its great waterfalls. If you are into local chinese food, go to the noodle house at BB plaza, great stuff! The Ship restaurant nearby serves tasty steak. Enjoy Malaysia, it's Asia all in one!
