Travel by car is the best way to go around. The places I have visited would be as follows: (a) Teluk Cempedak (great beach), (b) Kerteh gas processing plant (burning flames are beautiful at night), (c) other resorts. The above destination are within half an hour to 45 minutes by cars. The best restaurant would be the chinese restaurant called Tong Juan in Kemamang town, where the seafood are great and just 10 to 15 minutes drive from Cherating.

It's a good location to stay, just 40 minutes to an hour drive to Kuantan Town and other tourists attraction such as Teluk Cempedak, Pancing Cave, Kerteh, Sungai Lembing, etc. The best restaurant should be Tong Guan Chinese Restaurant where the stuff crab is the best.

Cherating is a nice place. Wonderful beach, near turtle sanctuary. Laid back Cherating village is worth a visit, for food and batik shopping. Duyong restaurant overlooking the sea serve excellent Thai & Chinese seafood.

Stayed at  Berjaya Tioman Beach, Golf & Spa Resort - Pahang, Malaysia.
Lovely island.........coral reefs are deteriorated, but still well worth snorkeling around. (the one right in front of the hotel is quite nice, even)

Tioman is outstanding. The trips to Coral Island were superb. Boats are plentiful around the island. Used Ferry from Singapaore and sped boat back to Mersing. Will fly in next time via KL.

Hotel transportation too expensive, We have to hired outside transportation just to go around all the places and I find its to expensive to charge $RM 20 per person just to see turtles laying eggs. Not much experinces occurred during our stayed in Cherating.

M Bradley 28 May 2001
Stayed at  Berjaya Tioman Beach, Golf & Spa Resort - Pahang, Malaysia.
Staying at Berjaya Resort was a little bit like living in your own zoological park. We would wake up in the morning and go out and watch the very large monitor lizards swimming around the lake behind our bungalow. In the evening we would watch the monkeys in the trees across the lake. One evening we had a close encounter of the animal kind with those same monkeys. I guess they got tired of being stared at and decided to cross the creek and visit. We caught one trying to steal our cigarettes (or our Visa card depending on who you ask!) In the waters around Tioman we swam with the fishes (not in the Soprano's sense of the word) and turtles. Everywhere you look on Tioman there is some kind of plant or animal life just waiting to be discovered and captured.... on film that is!

Cherating is a good destination for doing nothing. The area offers nothing really but beach. The beach is nice but not sure whether I'd swim in the sea. A great Chinese local resaturant is on the main road, thouroughly recommend the fish head curry.
