We visited Pangkor. It's beautiful in a laid-back way, but does not really encourage day-tripping. Most of the ferry passengers zipped away to their self-contained resorts. The easiest way to see the whole place is to ask for a round-island trip at about RM40. There are few 'touristy' places, but the northern beaches are more quaint. A walk from the main town to Kampung Pinang Kechil (about 2 km) illustrates the rural way of life that still pervades the island. If you don't want to make the longish trip to Lumut, there's a beautiful beach called Tanjung Sinangin just north of the Swiss Garden Hotel. Where you would turn left for the final track to the resort, follow the road for another couple miles. Tg Senangin looks like a favourite with the locals.

Because of the isolation you need your own transport. If you have a car you can easily drive to Lumut and take the regular ferry to Pangkor Island, which is well worth it. Frankly, if I go there next time I will stay on Pangkor which has much more going for it and seems cheaper.

The nearest attraction near this resort would be the Pangkor Island. There are ferries arranged by the hotel to get to the Lumut jetty from the hotel. And from Lumut, many other ferry operators provide trips to Pangkor Island. The ride in these ferries are exceptionally pleasant especially when standing on the deck or at the back of the ferry. The view of the surrounding greenery as well as the ships and submarines of the nearby Naval Base is a great backdrop for picture taking.

On Pangkor Island itself, the best way is to get some form of transportation to get around as there aren't much to see on the jetty except for shops selling fish and seafood products. The recommended way (if you have a motorcycle license) is to rent a motorcycle for only RM20 a day. However, care must be taken as the roads can get slightly dangerous.

Alternatively, if you do not possess a motorcycle license like me, hop on to one of those pink van-taxies. They'll take you around the island for about RM40. Bear in mind this includes stops at local tourist attractions such as temples and beaches, as well as a personal description of each place by the driver.

On the mainland, a short 15 minute drive will take you to Sitiawan, famous for their biscuits. A nice enough place to go to for dinner at night should you choose not to eat hotel food.

I was very disappointed that most of the activities that i wanted to try (such as the evening cruise and riverboat cruise) were not available even on the weekends. We were told by the recreation counter that they will return to us if there were enough number of people to run the cruise but they never got back to us.

If you are driving, beware that you have to drive through 4km of unpaved road in the middle of palm oil plantation (which probably belongs to the resort) after exiting from the main road. In the day, it is ok. But in the night, it becomes totally dark and secluded. My advice is to arrive before sunset, and unless you have a convoy of at least 2 cars, refrain from driving out for dinner or to the town. Do spend at least one day at Pangkor Island. The resort provides a free shuttle to its private jetty so that you can take a ferry to Lumut, and from there, take another ferry to Pangkor. The journey is not long and the boat ride very comfortable. At Pangkor, just take a taxi van for a all-round island tour, and you will get to see all that you need to see in Pangkor Island.

The direction route to get there was advertised on the internet but the instruction was quite bad. Should have a map to indicate for better navigation.
