The location allows not to walk to town, but taxi is with 10 RM not too high (ask for Sani as taxi driver). Nearby is a turtle station (20 min. walk at the lovely beach) but beware of the next resort (Club Med) as the let you not enter the resort. We aked to have some water for the children but the guards forced us back in a very unpleasent way. We recommend to watch rather the turtles than the frogs.

Cherating is not an unfamiliar destination to us. We had made several trips before. Getting there was no problem if you are driving. It took about 7-8 hours drive from Singapore (of course with a stopover for lunch). We enjoyed the scenery and able to see the locals way of life. We visited the turtle sanctuary, the Limbong Art shop for souvenirs, drove around visiting nearby hotels and resorts and had our meals at the small restaurants owned by the locals. But be exta careful driving where there are lots of cows grazing by the roadside.

We took Transnasional from Singapore (destination Kuala Trengganu) and alighted outside Impiana. Ticket seller gave us wrong info (we thought we can board bus at same place when coming home). But pick up point back to Singapore is at Geliga (at Trenggaru). We decided to go one day ahead by walking and asked a lot of people. Total: we walked 8 kilometres from resort. We later learnt we need to notify Transnational at K/Trengganu if wanted to board elsewhere or else they thought we miss the bus.
Don't confuse and wait at IQBAL transcity terminal. That's just a break point for transnasional bus and no pick up. Transnational pick up to south is along the Masjid (Mosque) Geliga opposite IQBAL TT.
At Cherating, can take 'SIHAT' bus to Kuantan for short trip RM3. To Geliga at Cukai (Tregganu) for Transnational pickup is RM0.50. Just wait along the road for SIHAT bus. SIHAT bus comes in half hour interval. First bus from Kuantan at 6 am and last bus leaving Kuantan at 6.20 pm.
A car will be an advantage if you stay in any of the established resorts such as Club Med, Impiana and Suria. For those without car, suggest you stay in resorts inside Pantai Cherating - easier for your meals and activities. CBV at Pantai Cherating provides good decent meals.

There are nice beaches along the coast, and the scenery is great. There are small villages and no big cities. We rented a car and drove around to enjoy the environment.

Chearting has a beautiful stretch of beach and the scenery is quite spectacular. The hotels appear to be mostly resort hotels and can be isolated. There is an erratic bus service and taxi is the only alternative. We cannot recommend restaurants as there were none where we stayed. This could probably be due to being out of season.

We went to Kuantan to get away from it all. No tours, no visits and we only ate in the hotel restaurant.
One important point to note when driving from Singapore to Kuantan is to take the North-South Highway, then exit at Yong Peng fro the Segamat Highway. Also, try to do your travelling along the Segamat highway late at night, to avoid the traffic.

Almost devoid of tourists in December this eastern area of Malaysia is a delight to travel through. One hopes that the resort building will remain at its present unobtrusive level. Hire cars are reliable and well-serviced. The local population could not have been more helpful and hospitable.

Cherating is not very developed and stretches along a 15 kilometer road. A car would be very useful. Have only seen the beach near Impiana, but is beautiful (as in untouched).

The East Coast of Malaysia is BEAUTIFUL.
Impiana is easy to get to - from Kuantan, a taxi costs MR40 and takes 45 minutes, a local bus costs MR3.00 and takes 1.5 hours. The local bus is also convenient for day trips up and down the coast to Kuantan or Kemaman the nearest big towns - excellent if you want to immerse yourself in local culture, shop for food and handicrafts, other beaches, (Cherating Village is quite a fun place to visit just about 10 minutes bus ride from Impiana. It has great local food, beach bars that party into the night in high tourist season, lots of firendly people and an internet cafe)
Impaina organises trips to night markets as well.
