The Cameron Highlands are very picturesque and would definitely recommend a visit (unless you don't like BIG beetles !). We definitely needed a car for both sightseeing and to be able to visit the main town - Tanah Rata. We visited a tea plantation and although they were almost closing, they still gave us a tour around the factory. Most of the restaurants in the main town seem to offer much the same and are great value for money.

Not as 'picturesque' as I expected overall. Tanah Rata is utterly charmless. A long and tortuous drive to get there, and then get out again. A car (or driver) is a necessity to get around. Not much to see apart from the tea plantations (which are very nice).

Even though the lakehouse is a bit far from the main town of Tanah Rata about 10km but it is still within the reach of those who have their own transportation which is about 15min by car.The nearrest town is Ringlet that is about 4km away. You can still enjoy going around Cameron Highland using the public transportation and the lakehouse management staff will always be there to assist you.As for food,if you feel like dinning at a fabulous Lord of The Ring kind of place, lakehouse offers you the right restaurant to dine in.

Located in between Tanah Rata and Brinchang town Strawberry Park Resort is the most convenient place to stay and to get around Cameron Highland. For those who have their on mean of transportation it is not a problem to go about anyway but still those without the advantage could enjoy the trip to the places of interest with the tour services provided by the resort. So there's nothing to worry about but to really enjoy your vacation.

Even if you plan to do any walking, the town itself only warrants a two to three day stay. Do not go at all if travelling in a thirty year old bus with an insane driver for three hours on steep and twisting mountain roads worries you!

The tea plantations are very scenic, especially early in the morning. The perfect place to enjoy a cup of tea and a scone or the local curry puff. It is very convenient to get around if you drive. Alternatively, you may hire a local taxi to get around for RM18 per hour.

The Cameron Highlands are a great retreat. We took several jungle trails - watch out for the description "fairly steep in places" as this walk involved an hours steady near-vertical climb! The tea plantations and market gardens are a fascinating glimpse at a side of Malaysia which is otherwise invisible to visitors. A definite must for all visitors to Malaysia.

The CH were lovely, a cool respite from humid Singapore. The flora and vegetation were different, with ferns, roses, decidious trees, pointsetias etc.
Golf is great. The municipal course was only 40 Ringit for 18 holes.
The Boh tea plantations were very interesting, and the terraces very beautiful.
There's quite a few walking trails, but the ones that our group did, didn't seem to be very well maintained.
Ye Olde Smoke House is a very twee English-style country pub with a very typical English garden and red phone box. Inside there's real fires etc. It's a bit overdone, but definitely worth a look. The Devonshire tea was nice, but pricey. We didn't eat dinner as we were told by various people who had eaten there that the food was overpriced and poor, and that they paid for the ambience.
Bearing in mind the CH has a cool evening climate, it seemed a pity that there weren't more cosy restaurants and hotels with log fires. Most seemed to be fairly souless.
BEWARE of some of the cheaper restaurants in the "downtown" area of the CH. I ate at an Indian restaurant/bar and got very bad salmonella poisoning, and was sick for two days - literally throwing up for 24 hours.
We had a car, but it would be possible to get a taxi to the trails or tea plantations.

A welcome retreat from the heat. Beware of the road though if you are driving up there. It's not for those with week stomachs.
