The travel agent located in the hotel building can arrange all sort of tours including visiting the Orang Utan, a day trip to the reserved forrest, offer to the nearby cultural villages, dolphin watch etc etc. The price is reasonable and the staff attitude is very friendly. Recommended seafood restaurant - SeaView Seafood Restaurant.

On the night of our arrival, we quickly checked in and unpack our things then we quickly went out to wander around the hotel (as the time was 1900hrs). We walked along the river bank and see the wonder of the night. We are lucky...on that night, something happened. We see the Malay Festival, Chinese Festival and there were also lots of food stalls along the way. We just wandered around until we got hungry. We have our dinner at TopSpot Seafood Center (just behind our hotel). We ordered seafood and the price is reasonable (cheaper than our own country). The next day, we woke up early and have our breakfast at the hotel. Then we walked our way until we reached one called Satok. We never felt tired of walking. Along the way we went to Masjid India area, then passed Museum and some government building. After reaching Satok Center we wandered there for a while and then we go back again but this time we used different route. Along the way back to our hotel we saw lot of scenery but something happened...we lost our way...we misinterpreted our map. But we didn't panic. We just continued our way and at last we found our way back to the hotel at 1400hrs. We took our lunch and back to our room to have a rest. At night we had our dinner at the same place as we have the previous night. And we caught our flight home the next day. Overall we had good adventure the whole day.

Kuching is a very developed city - compared to other locations in south east Asia. There are very few tourists traveling around so that some attractions (like Semenggoh Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center) were not busy. We went by public bus to Semenggoh and we didn`t see any orang utans. I assume it would be better to join an organized group tour.
The Sarawak Cultural Village is really worth a visit. There is a shuttle bus from the Crowne Plaza running several times a day.
Another nice trip is to the Bako National Park. During a nice jungle walk you can see several animals and plants.
For dinner I can recommend Top Spot Food Court. You can get excellent sea food for good prices. We never paid more than 100MR for all of us (including some beers).

Kuching is a lovely city and we took a number of tours to see orangutans, Bako National Park and the Cultural Village. Our favourite restaurant was The Mandarin Restaurant which serves excellent Chinese food.
Sarawak is a wonderful place to visit with many things to do and see. The highlight of our trip was going to Gulung Mulu National Park in Mulu. We stayed at the Royal Mulu Resort on a package tour which cost $157.00 U.S. per person for 4 days/3 nights including all meals, an English speaking tour guide and tour of the 4 limestone show caves in the park.

This was our first visit to Borneo, Sarawak and Kuching so we had no problems finding things to do. One day is enough to explore Kuching - a walk along the waterfront after dark is a must. Eat at the food stalls at the market at lunchtime, but not if you want a leisurely, sophisticated evening out: in that case stick to the restaurants in the major hotels. It's easy enough to arrange trips into the jungle through local travel agencies. They all seem to offer the same trips at the same prices.

There is a cute open-air restaurant with good food along the river walk in front of the hotel; and try the open-air sea-food hall a couple of blocks behind the hotel. (Tablecloths and smiling waitstaff sets this place apart from others in Asia.) There are several stalls selling seafood. I recommend Ling Loong Seafood Center. A huge meal of four overflowing dishes of buttered prawns, woked veggies, softshell crabs, a whole sea bass, and beer for two came to MR 66 (US$16).
I went into the adjoining shopping center to find a 128mb flash card for my camera. The first shop couldn't help, but a man overhearing my question sent me downstairs. (Did I say the people here are friendly and helpful?) On the third try, I finally figured out that the gal at that shop was telling me to go "opposite McDonalds."
I couldn't find it so I went into a mall across from McDonald's and asked again. This time, another gal said "Next to Pizza Hut."
I went outside, couldn't see Pizza Hut, but found a camera store. They had a selection of flash cards (try that in Peoria) and I bought the one I needed. As I left, I looked up and saw that I was... next to KFC!
McDonalds, Pizza Hut, KFC! Was I really in Kuching, Sarawak, on the island of Borneo?! Anyway, I got my flash card. :-))
