Getting around HK & Kowloon is easy and inexpensive by MTR, bus, tram & star ferry. Public transport was clean and efficient. Hardly had to wait more than 10 minutes for public transport. The 3 day visitor travel pass was handy and economic. There was a HKD50 refundable deposit with each 3 day visitor travel pass. We had problems collecting our deposit at the HK international airport before departure as there was no signages after we alight form the airport express train. We received directions from the information counter in the airport and was told that the counter (for collecting the refundable deposit) is located one floor below. Quite a walking distance and you will feel it especially if you are running late for a flight. Other than that I have no complaints about the transportation system.
Most menus in local restaurants are written in chinese, so if you cant read chinese, be prepared or just order what the next table is having. We tried dim sum at this chinese restaurant in Causeway Bay called Maxim and it was absolutely delicious (cost a bit more than the average dim sum restaurants). I bought a souvenir of a japanese doll in a glassed picture frame from a friendly man in Temple Street. At the nearby (and more happening) Ladies Market, traders offered me double to triple the price! Remember to bargain at this location. Don't be surprised if you are still over charged, even if you managed to lower the price to half.

I had the pleasure of eating at The Agave in lan kwai fong. It is delightful mexican food, a little pricey, but worth it, since I can't get good mexican food in beijing. I also ate at the Thai Basil in Pacific Place. Delicious, but pricey for the food served. Better to visit The Banana Leaf in Causeway Bay, which is great food at a reasonable price.

We loved visiting Hong Kong. We bought discounted visitor transit passes in advance at www.mtr.com.hk and got round trip airport express train service, free shuttle to our hotel, 3 days unlimited use of the subway system, and a (refundable) credit for other forms of transit. We added $ to the cards at a subway station and used them for the ferries, buses, and trams. The transit system is superb and signage is excellent. By all means visit the Peak, ride up the Escalator, take the double decker bus to Stanley, and cross the harbour on the Star Ferry. We had a memorable meal at Bistro Manchu on Elgin Street near the Escalator, asked the waiter to recommend some Manchurian dishes.

The Pizza bar on the Wan Chai side, next to Carnegie's is a really good pasta and pizza restaraunt for the money, taste and quantity.

This is my 15th trip here in HK. I used to work in HK in 1994 and for the past decade whenever I travel overseas, I try to stopover in HK. Hence I know all the streets (well, almost), the places to find (beyond the tourist guidebooks), the hotels to stay. I have stayed in all sorts of hotels from Peninsula, Conrad, Ritz, to Bishop Lei, Imperial, Ambassador (now torn down become Holiday Inn) so each has their own to offer. Bishop Lei differs in the proximity to the church.
For places to visit not described by guidebooks, you should try Shek O (see their golf club), Tai Long Wan (the beach), Tseung Kwan O (the crispness of the air), Golden Beach (looks like Perth), Pokfulam (Stanley stadium).
For food, you should try San Francisco steakhouse at Peking Road, Peak cafe in Soho (it used to be formerly at the Peak), coffee house at IFC, Luk Yik restaurant on Stanley Road (giving you a taste of what a dim sum restaurant really is about, with her unique waitress hanging dim sum around their necks), Suzuki coffee at Pacific place for her good Blue Mountain coffee, Shamrock hotel for her good dim sum (and where one of the few places serving excellent Long Jin tea).

Went on an amazing “mobile phone walking tour” on this visit to HK – kind of like the museum audio guide, except along the streets of HK with obviously well researched good stories of triads, movies, immigrants, history, etc. Service is called ‘Walk The Talk’. We bought our packages at the Dymocks bookstore by the Central Star Ferry - you just dial a local phone number, enter a passcode that comes with the package and start walking! Convenient because you can stop/re-start whenever you like…I also highly recommend the Shanghainese Restaurant in the basement of the Novotel Century Hotel in WanChai – it’s been around for 20 years I think – reasonable prices and great food!

Spring Deer on Mody Road continues to be a favorite restaurant. I also like to go to the 'Spaghetti House' which I think serves better fare than what I have back home. And TGI-Friday's is across the street. A treat.
