J O' grady 27 January 2004
Stayed at  Bishop Lei International - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
We visited many restaurants including Jade Gardens, Spring Deer, Felix, Woodlands, Peking Gardens. All were good and the Sunday Dim Sum at Lin Heung Teahouse was wonderful. We used the MTR, buses and many Ferry boats for our self guided tours which included Kowloon New Years Parade, Po Lin Monastery, Cheung Chau, Kowloon, Sha Tin racing, Tai Wei, Mongkok, Hong Kong Museum of History(outstanding).

HK great place to visit - Nathan Road area perfect to get anywhere on MTR. Visit Stanley in the afternoon, stay for dinner and come back at night - views are amazing!!!

Had 2 suits and some shirts made at Sam's Tailors in Tsim Sha Tsui. Great value and good fun, too. Took the tram up the Peak and spent a lot of time taking photos in Kowloon, up around the tropical fish and other markets. Cat Street antiques market was great for picking up fun items for presents (got my boss a copy of Mao's little red book!) but there are great "proper" antique shops in abundance. Great dim sum and thai restaurants in the basemement of Pacific Place, went there 2 days running. Wonderful food!

Stayed at  Stanford Hillview Hotel - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Knutsford Terrace in Kowloon has a nice assortment of interesting restaurants and bars.

B Little 13 January 2004
Stayed at  Panda Hotel - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
The Hotpot restaurant across the street in the mall is to be avoided - service is impossible. Take the bus to Shenzhen and avoid the line-ups at Lowu!

B Little 11 January 2004
Stayed at  Wharney Guang Dong Hotel Hong Kong, The - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
There is a Thai restaurant on the next block (turn left out of the main doors of the hotel) on the same side of the street - it was excellent. There is also a bustling coffee shop in the uniquely Hong Kong manner across the street on the corner called Hay Hay. The MTR station is a 5-minute walk from the hotel - turn left out of the hotel doors - cross at the light and cross again until you are on the same street facing the same way (ie. away from the hotel but parallel) and walk for another block - that's it!

For breakfast go down the escalator to Hollywood Road where the Pacific Coffee company has a great location to lounge and have a coffee and pastry for breakfast and also free internet to keep in touch at home or transfer more money! Or take a short walk over to the Peak Tram and go to the Peak for breakfast (again at the Pacific Coffee Company) and then walk around the Peak Trail (Lugard Road).

Stayed at  Empire Hotel Kowloon - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
I was just in Hong Kong this time for an evening from mainland China, as my flight was to depart from Chep Lok on the following morning and I did not wish to perform border transit acrobatics on my departure date. That night I took my wife shopping at a plethora of cosmetics and beauty shops just around the corner from the Empire. She very much enjoyed herself with the high and middle end selections offered for sale.We visited a restaurant called the Western Coconut so that I could take a final try at steak before going back to the U.S. Well the restaurant was retro with old movie posters papering the walls and the ambience was comfortable, but the steak was litterally tougher than shoe leather. Order something else there and I am sure that it will be fine. The rest of the meal was great. There also was a nice bar there.

Stayed at  Charterhouse, The - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
What more can you say about Hong Kong. We have spent the weekend in Hong Kong and have never left the island. Lantau Island is worth a visit and is easily accessible through the ferry service close to Central Station or on the MTR. If you can get a clear day, Victoria Peak offers quite a view. It's also just a lot of fun to go down any of the narrow market streets to explore the little shops. Food: So many places. We do love the Fat Angelo restaurants. Great food.

Hong Kong - always a favourite city with my husband and I. This was my 4th visit there and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the standard of customer service in the shops has really improved and many of the streets look really clean now. Causeway Bay is a great area for walking around if you enjoy shopping, eating or just being where lots of people are. There's an excellent local dessert place in that area along Lockhart Road (walking distance from Causeway Bay MTR station) that is famous for its "dun nai" and dun dan" (steamed milk dessert and steamed egg dessert -- both look and taste like a really smooth, soft custard). I can't remember the name of the place offhand, but there is a picture of a cow on the shop sign and logo. Ask the locals when you're in that area, they should be able to direct you.
