Hong Kong was a LOT more polluted than I was expecting. Was pity that their New Years celebrations weren't too exciting, no fireworks and Times square packed to the max. A day trip to Macau is a definate must, and cheap too, shopping wise. Best thing about HK - cheap shopping, street markets and the HK island at night.

We just visited Hongkong by ourself, as we know the city quite well my husband and I! We showed our two daughters (11 & 9 years old): Star Ferry, Stanley Market (by bus No 6!),Temple Street night market, Bird market, street market in Mong Kok, Temple Wong Tai Sin, Revolving Restaurant with outside lift (don't remember the name!!), Victoria Peak (way down by foot + escalator!). We spent a whole day at Ocean Park: just great, beautiful. We spent New Year's Eve in the street at Tsim Sha Tsui & Nathan road! Was great fun! We just love Hong Kong!

Hong Kong was easy to visit. People were very frindly. Great food. Good cultural events. One tour to the New Territories was very informative about the cultural history of Hong Kong.

I have been to HongKong so many times. If you
go there for shopping, it is time to go now until Jan, you will see on the sale everywhere.
If you change your money, you will find a good rate in town (Kowloon area).

Hong Kong still a fascinating place.
November is the ideal time for visiting with temperature 19/20 °C and blue sky.
And Hong-Kong people still the same!

For the Canton Fair you must get a prior invitation - seems a bit of a rigmarole - and it would help if there was a later last train back.

Didn't go into the city on this trip; but have visited Hong Kong briefly in the past. A word of advice - If planning a trip to Hong Kong avoid the Spring/Summer/Early Autumn months - unbelievably humid - very uncomfortable for walking around. If you've only got a short time in Hong Kong, you can't go wrong taking the Star Ferry across the harbour and visiting Victoria Peak.

I was fortunate to be in Hong Kong during the Mid Autumn Festival and saw a dragon dancing in the street of Tai Hang and a fantastic fireworks display. Hong Kong is a shopper's paradise from high end, high fashion to street vendor's knock offs. The city is also easy to get around in and friendly people.

In July/August do not plan on walking for more than 100 yards. Ensure you have an itinerary and take taxis or air con busses between points.
You can not wander and expect to find what you want. Do your research and you'll be fine.
Noon day gun is a laugh !
