Stayed at  Telang Usan Hotel - Sarawak, Malaysia.
We moved around with a rented car and were attending the Rain Forest Music Festival. The excursion to Kubah National park was a good idea since we have only 3 full days to explore Kuching.

Stayed at  Eastern and Oriental Hotel - Penang, Malaysia.
The weekend we were in Penang was phenomenal, with Deepavali (Indian New Year), Hari Raya, and other end of Ramadan festivities; sure, it meant we didn't know what would be open when, but the carnival atmosphere more than compensated. One of our best expeditions was to the Tropical Spice Gardens, about 3 kms out of Batu Ferringhi. The gardens have only been open for a year or so, but feel like a pristine rainforest (apart from the giant swing!). You can do a spice walk, a jungle walk, or a flower walk - they're all quite easy. The gardens are gorgeous; ancient cycads, incredible plants and lots of spice plants. It's cool and quiet, and as major foodies, it was a not-to-be-missed excursion. The cafe has spectacular views over the bay, and great food.

Stayed at  Pan Pacific Kuala Lumpur International Airport - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
KL has the best airport in the world, super functional! City is very clean and green, has excellent transit system, envied by us, westerners. Taxi drivers use meter (most of them anyway), and the taxis are super cheap.

Our favorite restaurant in KL was Bon Ton, fusion of Malay and french, located in a charming colonial building. We also tried the Malay Buffet in Seray Melayu, interesting, and it wasn't busy at all. We didn't find mosques so interesting - they are fairly new and don't have great architectural or historical value. Bird Zoo really worth seeing - in a beautiful park, all kinds of tropical birds are kept under huge netted areas so they fly freely around you.

We have visited during Thaipusam, the Hindu festival. If you like exciting things, you should see it - happens once a year usually Jan/Feb. We will be back to KL!

Stayed at  Suitestay, Executive Residences - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Was in KL for the Malaysian GP.

T Whybrow 26 January 2003
Stayed at  Concorde Hotel Kuala Lumpur - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
I arrived in KL mainly to go and watch the Asian X games which was very exciting and fun to watch, could not belive it was free to get into as well.

On the Friday visited a place called the extreme park, which is located by the Sunway hospitial about 25 minutes in a cab. They had jetskiing, go karting, quad bike racing, and dirt buggy racing which was well worth a day at. The only thing I would say is take a change of clothes, as we did not and had to spend the whole cab ride back all wet and dirty.

Of an evening we went to Chinatown to look around the market, which I must say is really long and has lots to offer in the way of cheap copied gear. Places we ate were mainly the Hard Rock Cafe next door to the hotel, a restaurant in Chinatown. We also visited Bintang walk which was worth a look some nice resturants and has a two level Planet Hollywood. Really nice food in there as well.

All in all I really enjoyed my time in KL and it was made all the more special by staying in such a lovely hotel such as the Concorde.

I am due to get married in April and my wife will be moving here to Brunei to live with me, I will definitely be returning to KL with here and rest asured I will be staying in the Concorde hotel again. Hope this helps you out if you require any more information please email me at my address. MANY THAKS.....

Stayed at  Nova, Hotel - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The hotel is near the Jalan Bukit Bintang shopping triangle and KLCC and the twin towers are within walking distance. We walked to twin towers in morning, about 20 minutes walk. Ticket is free if you wish to go up the tower. However, one needs to go early to get the tickets as there is a limit in the number of persons on the bridge each time. We were unable to get to go up as that day was Hari Raya, a public holiday. Instead, we went to the Suria KLCC, which is situated next to the towers. We seen a film show, 'Die Another Day', in the cinema. Later, we did some shoppings in the centre.

To get around KL, we travelled in taxis. If you queue at the taxi stand, the fare will be according to the meter. However, if you hail from the street, you should bargain your fare before boarding as they usually do not go by the meter.

We visited the Sunway Lagoon, water park, the Mines by taxis. In the night, we arranged a cab to bring us to see the fireflies. We booked a taxi for RM250 for the tour which started at 5 pm, it's better to start early as this is a long journey from the city centre. We went for a seafood dinner which we paid separately. If we booked through the hotel, each person will be charged a sum per head which is more costly. Entrance fee is payable which includes a sampan ride down the river to see the fireflies on both sides of the river banks.

M Gwyther 17 September 2002
Stayed at  Crown Jewel Hotel - Penang, Malaysia.
Lots of kids and overall a pretty boring place for single people.

J Shamsuddin 12 September 2002
Stayed at  Awana Porto Malai Langkawi - Langkawi, Malaysia.
My first trip to Langkawi was about 7 years ago. Now, there are some new buildings, especially in Kuah town, but nothing much has happened. The Underwater world was really very disappointing. For the fee paid we expected to see some or at least one life show. In my opinion, besides the shopping, Langkawi has still not much to offer.

Stayed at  Crown Regency Serviced Apartments - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
malaysia is a regular travel destination for me. i've been going to the f1 grand prix for the past few years and visit many places, especially the beaches along the east coast. food is best at the hawkers and street vendors. but there are also a vast selection of fine dinning establishments around kl.
