Stayed at Miss Maud Swedish Hotel - Perth, Australia.

Spend a week in Perth, using the hotel as your home base. Definitely rent a car for two or three days to travel around or else you will get bored after a few days. Easter holiday weekend everything shuts down, including the free CAT bus services, so be prepared to walk or rent a car and do not expect to do any shopping.

Stayed at Angsana Resort and Spa Great Barrier Reef - Cairns Beaches, Australia.
|
Cairns area is over-hyped. You can't really swim in the sea much of the year (either too cold or lethal stinging jelly fish). I have never been there (at any time of the year) when the weather has been good and Barrier Reef trips have been worthwhile. It is a budget destination, really. We were there only on a stop-over. Families might find it fun, but this area of Australia is definitely not for 5 star, luxury relaxation!

Stayed at Queens Court - Cairns, Australia.

Cairns was great in May:not many people and cheap! The weather was gorgeous:sunny and dry. I recommend renting a car there and driving up north for a couple days. We loved Port Douglas and the Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation. Rum Runner has great snorkleing and diving trips out of Cape Tribulation.

Stayed at Quest on William - Melbourne, Australia.

We explored the place with a rented car from Ascot situated on Elizabeth St in the CBD. After making a few comparisons, we chose them for their value for money rental packages and approachable staff, in particular Dean who make an effort to understand our needs and showed us the way to get around, and all these with a smile.
Drove along the Great Ocean Road. Though it was long and rather difficult the coastal line and country side were spectacular. Stopped at Lorne and Apollo Bay for tea and lunch. They were pretty good but can't recall the name of the eateries. Sorry..
Didn't get the chance to visit the Grampians due to bad weather. It was highly recommended by the locals and pictures in brochures were breathe-taking. Next time perhaps.
For parents with young children, don't miss the Puffing Billy, a train fueled by coal celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. While you are there, do drive through the Sherbrooke Forest.
Love to shop in Melbourne. Other than Daimuru, Myers and David Jones in CBD, Chadstone along Dandenong Rd is not to be missed by "shopperholics". The complex is so huge that we almost lost each other there. Went to Swan St and Bridge Rd in Richmond for factory outlets and some local labels. While you are there, try authentic Vietnamese food at Victoria St.
If you are in Melbourne on a Sunday, take a stroll along the esplanade at St. Kilda beach. There is a stretch of stalls selling interesting souvenirs and art pieces. Tried some delightful pastries and coffee along Acland St. Colourful and rich cakes and puffs were displayed at the windows. They reminded me of the "Hansel and Gretal" fairy tale.
Lots of places to visit in Melbourne. I used day tour brochures to help plan my itinerary for the free and easy trip. Hope you will enjoy yours too. Good Luck!

Stayed at Ibis Hotel Darling Harbour - Sydney, Australia.
|
I was fortunate to be in Sydney for Australia Day and took in all of the festivities around town. The music and fireworks in the evening at Darling Harbour were spectacular. The Sydney harbour ferries are the best way to get around and see all that Sydney has to offer.

Stayed at Adelphi Hotel Apartments - Perth, Australia.

Perth generally is a city worth visiting, especially during the Spring and Autumn when weather is not as hot. People is nice and helpful. The multi-cultural background also helps visitors set in the pace easier.

Sydney is a fantastic place and I recomend it to anyone, I have now stayed in Sydney a total of 6 months and miss it every moment. A walk around the Rocks, Harbour Bridge and Opera House is a must as is the costal walk from Bondi to Coogee. Paddington Markets on a Saturday are great and any event in Darling Harbour is always a delight. Even just a walk from one end of Oxford Street to the other is greatly amusing and fantastic for shopping !
