Stayed at  Club Andaman Beach Resort - Phuket, Thailand.
The Phi Phi speed boat island tour is a must, although it can be a bit long. If you don't like a day's worth of bouncing on a speed boat, you should take the big boats which have 100+ people, no bouncing and take longer to reach the island and locations. If you meet local westerners who work in the area they can tell you the best bars and clubs. Scruffy Murphy's was a great pub to hang in - a western crowd drinking pints and watching soccer and no pestering girls. Live music there everyday too. For disco, the Banana Club was great venue with great mix and cool atmosphere. We tried to go to Safari (another club) afterward but it was winding down at 2 am close - this place looked very cool. Outside tables and bar with small lagoon. A cop was standing at the bar at 2 am exactly making sure no one could buy a drink.

Stayed at  Central Karon Village - Phuket, Thailand.
We mainly spent heaps of time in the resort itself. We enjoyed just lying around under the sun and the spa there. Very other night we spent our time at Patong and we managed to book tickets and watched the excellent performance by Fantasea. Two thumbs up for this whole trip :)

Stayed at  Thavorn Beach Village - Phuket, Thailand.
Patong Village just 5 minutes away by taxi, so all the bars, restaurants and shopping you'll need and more! Savoy restaurant was particularly good. Phuket Phantasea show was pretty good, although the theme park itself was slightly cheesy. A Boat trip to Phi Phi for some snorkelling was definitely one of the highlights.

Stayed at  Baan Yin Dee Boutique Resort - Phuket, Thailand.
FYI: The Jim Thompson fabric store on Phuket is a factory outlet (no advertised that way!) and the savings were huge. Also the show at FantaSea in Phukhet is well produced and very professional. However, the show is at 9 pm. No need to get there for dinner to at least 7:00. We were taken there at 6:00, too early.

Stayed at  Impiana Phuket Cabana Resort - Phuket, Thailand.
Phuket itself, especially Patong Beach is touristy - there is no getting away from it. However, we still had a great time - a trip to Phi Phi islands is worth it, although be prepared for a choppy ride there in monsoon season (we went in Sept). Fantasea is good if you like disney & have kids (unfortunately not a good experience for us - too many crowds).

Stayed at  Royal Paradise Hotel - Phuket, Thailand.
Love the tours. A bit disappointed with Phi Phi Island tour because I can only view "The Beach - Leonardo de Caprio movie" from a distance (about 1 km away).

Restaurants are expensive for Canadian travellers in Phuket (compare to Bangkok) but it is still a good bargain for American and European. Lunch or dinner for two persons at Phuket in good restaurants cost the same as in Toronto, Canada.

Patong is lively. To other travellers - stay closer to the Patong beach for good restaurants and service. Most areas are just walking distance from my hotel. Go to Phuket Fantasea show. It's really amazing!

Stayed at  Pearl Village, Phuket - Phuket, Thailand.
Small bars and restaurants on the beach in front of the hotel are friendly and inexpensive.

Stayed at  Central Karon Village - Phuket, Thailand.
As part of our package we visited the Phantasea show, which was very well done - an impressive performance.

A negative however is that our driver on the return journey did not appear to know where the hotel was and consequently he drove right pass the hotel, despite us telling him to stop. He then proceeded to drop all the remaining passengers off before leaving us to last, meaning that our journey was 20 minutes longer than it should have been.

You should communicate with the Phantasea management team to ensure their driving team are fully aware of the location of the hotel.

We enjoyed Patong. We would recommend the 6 in 1 Safari and sea canoe trip to Phang Nga Bay. The Fantasea show is very cheesy, but worth seeing the Thai version of Disney (without the rides).

From the hotel, we did not have any problem going into Patong beach, as there was a free shuttle. Going back up, one is left to one's devices. Be careful of the tuktuks which charge exorbitant rates though! The drivers will always try to charge higher rates for tourists.

Patong Beach was literally swarming with people when we went there mid-afternoon -- all were either swimming, sunbathing, jet-skiing, para-sailing. The light-colored, almost-white sand was dotted with loungers and umbrellas and people trying to get a tan. The main attraction to this beach probably was that one could just walk off the street and be at the beach in just a few steps! Those who were manning the beach charged us 100 baht for 2 loungers with an umbrella. There are numerous vendors walking along the beach, selling shirts, souvenirs. Massage services are also available,

Numerous stores and restaurants line the main avenue fronting the beach; the side streets offer a multitude of merchandise and eating places as well. Prices here are a bit higher than in Bangkok, but if one is a seasoned haggler, then prices can be negotiated to levels easier on the pocket. We ate at one of the restaurants near the beach, and although we had to wait for quite some time before our orders were finally served, the wait was worth it, as the food was fresh, very delicious and quite filling.

The Phuket FantaSea is one enjoyable place to go to. There are quite a number of shops inside the complex, with beautiful novelty items. One can also opt to include in the ticket a buffet dinner inside the FantaSea -- this is one big, scrumptious spread of food! The huge banquet hall was filled with people who were having a great time at the FantaSea. After eating there, we could hardly walk around anymore.

The main attraction of the FantaSea is the show which is staged in their theater. With lavishly costumed dancers, spectacular sounds, majestic elephants and acrobatic stunts, this is truly a magnificent show. Legend becomes life on stage, with the music seemingly transporting us to a time when gods and heroes roamed the earth.

Cameras and videocams were not allowed inside the theater; these had to be deposited outside. Authorized VCDs of the show could be bought at stalls outside, though. We also went on a day trip to Phi Phi. The cruise took more than 2 hours, with most of the people trying to get a spot near the ship's railings and snap some pictures and catch the sea breeze. We first anchored off Maya Bay (where the movie "The Beach" was filmed) for an hour or so of snorkelling. The spot where we anchored did not have a very large variety of fish though, although there were schools of them in the area. The other parts of the bay probably holds more variety. Then we went to Phi Phi Don for lunch and for some window-shopping. Souvenir items here were very expensive, though! The lunch included in the tour package was not very satisfying -- the food was not really that good. The cruise back was more relaxed, with people tired from swimming and snorkelling and eating and shopping, going for some shuteye on the ship. If you are a beach lover, then you will love Phuket.
