Stayed at FCC Phnom Penh - Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The FCC is close to the fantastic museum and the Royal Palace so it's a good place to go for a meal or a drink while you're in the area. Don't miss it though, it's got lots of atmosphere and a great location if you just want to watch the world go by. The food is great - the daily menu a bargain.

Cambodia is a fascinating country to visit. If you want glitz and glamour that isn't the place for you. But the country and its history makes it a place with a lot more 'depth' than most other prosperous destinations. Its people are simple and friendly. Siem Reap and its temples are fascinating. For Indians like us, more enriching since we are familiar with all the tales and myths surrounding the carvings. For the unfamiliar, it would help to brush up on basics of Hindu mythology before a trip to the temples (especially the Great Epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata).
Phnom Penh is any grimy polluted city. But interesting to soak in its sights and sounds and understand where it comes from. Cambodia's recent morbid history is evident in the Killing Fields and Tuol Sleng Museum. Depressing but helps understand Cambodians better. Check out the traditional dances at the Sovanna Phum Arts Association. Performances every Friday night. Always a good way to get in touch with local flavours and culture.

We walked to the FCC but at other times took a taxi to further destinations. Tom's Irish Bar is just around the corner and the superb restaurant Khmer Surin is immediately opposite the hotel.

Can recommend Soho Bar at #3 St. 118. It's a welcome change if you've tired of multicolored light strings and wicker chairs.

What a great city to see!
Aside from the obvious, and very grim S-21 prison and killing fields, which are an important and harrowing must see, the city has a great buzz to it.
The museum is lovely and houses some great Angkorian pieces, the Russian market is fun to wander around, the moped racing drivers provide a fun white knuckle US$ 1 tour, the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda are breathtaking and well worth seeing, and most importantly, the people are really cool.
Sundowners at the Foreign Correspondents club are a must, the Heart of Darkness bar is worth a look at. The Ponlok restaurant does a great Cambodian lunch overlooking the Mekong, and need we mention how we enjoyed Happy Herbs pizza?
Fantastic place to visit.

Stayed at Raffles Hotel Le Royal - Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Phnom Penh is often avoided by Angkor wat travellers. This is a mistake as Phnom Penh has lots to offer--from the Royal Palace and Royal ballet to the river-centered culture which is 1500 years old.
I always stayt at le Royal; dine at the Foreign Correspondents' Club by the river to pick up gossip on the latest openings of clubs, bars and attractions; travel by motorcycle tax; never miss the Russian and Central markets. Everything is so much easier since my frist visit in 1979.

Great - we really enjoyed PP, people are lovely and there is plenty to see. We visited the usual sites Killing Fields, detention centre and Royal Palace. Good nightlife, FCC very good food and Heart of Darkness bar - a must. We hired a driver for the day which really was the way to go if you have time pressures.

Stayed at Tai Seng Hotel - Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The hotel is next door to the famous "La Royal Hotel", a good place to have a happy hour beer or two. Some good restaurants are to be found along the river front within easy walking distance of the Tai Seng Hotel.
