Langkawi airport is painless. The clean modern taxi services are price regulated and reasonable. One annoying feature is the universally poor service in most tourist shops. The staff speak little English, appear to be barely trained and lack interest in what they are doing. They often play loud, local music to entertain themselves. Clearly, the managers are to blame for this. Please follow my example and COMPLAIN TO THE MANAGERS. It helps.
We ate one evening at BARN THAI Restaurant. an isolated, mangrove surrounded ecology centre, that appears to be trying to stay viable. The authentic Thai food, surroundings and service were excellent, if not a little pricy. The free mini bus shuttle service seems to be necessary to keep the place supplied with customers. We all enjoyed the experience and I would go back.
East Marine run all-inclusive day trips on large boats to a snorkelling/diving site on offshore islands. The diving was reasonably good with lots of fish to be seen. The experienced snorkellers in our group found it very rich in fish and have the pictures to prove it! Parrotfish, Butterfly and Angelfish, Surgeonfish and all the usual suspects. An unusual feature is the hand-feeding of baby Blacktip sharks in beach shallows. The large jellyfish were easily spotted. Underwater world has a fine collection of fish species, including the 2 species of the Australian Dragonfish. Don't miss that tank! Shopping next door was only OK.

We took the Mangrove Adventure tour which was well worth giving up a morning on the beach for. Otherwise the beach won through each day.

Langkawi is a wonderful island to visit. This is better for visitor to rent a car and tour around. For island hopping, can go to the jetty straight away and bargain the price. This is better price than you take from the tour agent.

The cable car ride was quite a spectacular experience with wonderful views of the sea and mountains. We got around the island in a hired car which was relatively inexpensive (RM60 per day).

The island hopping tour of 3 islands remains the most impressing experience of a stay in the Langkawi Islands.

Eagle Feading & Manglove tours are nice. It's was really nice. Langkawi is Duty free, but I recommend you to buy tobaccos in city area. The airport's DFS were little bit higher than city.

Lankawi is a nice destination for relaxation. Pantai Tengeh is a really nice beach but Cenang seems to be busier and has more restaurants/bars etc but no shade on beach in day.
Not many activities etc on Langkawi. We went on a 1/2 day island hopping trip which was fun but the islands were a bit poor. The aquarium was poor. The waterfalls are not really worth visiting in dry season according to locals. Lovely sunsets!!

There is nothing worth making the effort to see on Langkawi. If you want a week off in the sun doing nothing but eating, sleeping and relaxing then this is ideal. That's what we wanted....that's what we got.

The island of Langkawi is a great getaway. It has solitary beaches and serene jungles as well as more lively areas with restaurants and shopping areas.
I took two reasonably priced tours offered through (but not by) the hotel: the jungle canopy tour (with Jurgen, a resident German and weekend hypnotherapist--a fun guide!) and the mangrove forest boat ride (with Jeffri, a laid-back and very knowledgeable Malay guide). I was quite pleased with both tours.
There was plenty else to do, but I preferred to spend my time on the beach. I got through three books, and couldn't be happier about it.
