We didn't do much as it was very hot although we did the Parasending on the Beach that was quite reasonable (120R for 2). The restaurants were all good especially the Sun Village down past Pantai Tengah.

Taxis are very good value, drivers friendly and helpful. Kuah, the main city, is interesting and has good duty-free shops; Langkawi Fair is the best shopping complex. Remember to put in the decimal point when trying to get money from cash machines ie 200.00 ringits...we couldn't figure out why it wouldn't give us cash, but we were only tapping in 200.
A sunset cruise is a must, the Bon Ton restaurant five minutes from the hotel is excellent (with a very chic little shop), and golf on the Datai's course is expensive but breathtaking (carved out of rainforest). Pelangi will arrange your transport, and golf. We were told the craft centre was excellent, but did not have time to visit. Watch out for jellyfish in the water.

My 2nd visit to Langkawi, I only ever come for a few days at a time. For those who like beach holidays then this is ideal.
Others may get bored and find that teaming it with several days in KL\Singapore and Penang may be a good idea.

island tour was ok, but snorkeling should not be in the program - as cannot compete with other places like lombok, etc - rest rather boring then exiting - we had been in crocodile farm, waterfall, crystal factory and coco beach, crystal factory (coco beach again a very nice picture - which cannot hold up with reality)
all in all a bit disappointing.

The beach, Pantai Cenang, is where the resort is at is beautiful. You can take long walks and swim all day in its calm blue waters. If you find the resort food too expensive for your liking, there are plenty of food outlets within walking distance outside the hotel at reasonable prices. There are also groceries store and a supermarket nearby.

1. Best thing is to rent a car.
2. We took a trip to Payar Marine Park where we had the best snorkelling so far.
3. "Seven Wells" is a really nice waterfall; just make sure to bring your swimming suit 'cause you can actually swim in there (we didn't know). And be prepared to climb LOTS of stairs...don't give up; it is worth it. :)
4. There's a much better waterfall ( only remember it's just a few km. before Datai Bay; take a look on your map and you'll find it)
5.And don't try to "visit" Datai beach unless you stay there; it's absolutely for the hotel guests...
Have a nice vacation!

Langkawi was fantastic - relaxing and yet enough to do that I can't remember even looking at my watch the whole time. Perfect place to sleep when tired, eat when hungry, lounge on the beach or ride around on a motorbike. Two things I recommend are hiring a motorbike to see the island and going on an Eco-cruise with Crystal yacht tours. The motorbikes are easy to ride and fairly safe. The yacht trip was the best day of our trip.
Eat at Fat Mum's and see the snake charmers show at Snake Farm.

We went to Langkawi for a quiet beach holiday but ended up doing so much more, very easily !!! A very good holiday destination even in the rainy season. A destination that we would definately recommend.

Langkawi is a beautiful island, although some indiscriminate building around the island is an eyesore. The people in general on the island are very hospitable and friendle. There is a fixed charge for taxis to any locations within the island which is good. Cenang an Panthai are probable the best areas for restaurants and bars. There are some really nice restaurants located beside the Langkawi Village Resort (200 metres to the left on leaving the hotel). Try to take in the island tour by taxi, well worth the 60 Ringits.

Langkawi was absolutely beautiful. We went in September which is low season, which meant that it was really quiet and peaceful. We stayed in a resort called the Tropical Resort (Pantai Tengah) which was wonderful. They only have fifteen bungalows, which were clean and very peaceful.
I would definitely recommend a snorkelling or diving trip to Pulau Payar (a marine park). It costs about 130 ringitt per person and it is really worth it. We swam with black tip reef sharks, swordfish, angelfish to name but a few. The coral was beautiful - well worth the day trip!
Recommended restaurants would be The HOT Wok Cafe, Wonder Seasons, Rern Thai and the Boom Boom Cafe - all served amazing food at good prices!
