Langkawi was a nice place to relax. The only activity we undertook was diving (both Scuba and snorkelling) while we were there. The diving isn't as good as some of the stuff available in Thailand. Taxi's are cheap and the entire time we were there we didn't feel like we were being ripped of.

Ocean is beautiful from land, but anything underwater (diving & snorkeling) worth doing just once; visibility is not great. Langkawi is a duty-free zone, but shopping not recommended.

Langkawi offers the visitor a real taste of laid-back rural Malaysia as well as beautiful beaches and stunning coastal scenery. Getting around is easy - the Kg. Tok Senik staff are happy to arrange taxis and there are also a number of in-house options including a minivan, a 'limo' and the only London taxi on the island!

We took a taxi to Pantai Cenang and spent a relaxing day on the beach, although we could have opted for various activities such as jet-skiing, paragliding or island-hopping if we had felt the need to be more active. On our last full day we hired a Kancil and explored the rest of the island. First we went north and took a stroll along the beach at Tanjung Rhu, then west to check out the facilities at The Datai, finally heading 'home' via Burau Bay in the south. Later that evening we drove to the Casa del Mar at Pantai Cenang for dinner on the terrace overlooking the beach. The food, described as 'Western/Japanese fusion', was of a high standard, the service was fast and efficient and I had a very enjoyable meal in a picturesque setting.

As our flight was scheduled for late afternoon the next day, we requested and were readily granted a late checkout at no extra charge, so we extended our car hire and drove to the main town, Kuah. Unfortunately it was raining so we spent most of our time there in the shopping centre, but were pleasantly surprised to find a good selection of quality handicrafts which were a definite cut above the usual 'tourist tat'one often finds in such places. All in all we enjoyed our trip and Langkawi is a place I am sure we will visit again.

We didn't find out until we go there that a renting a car/scooter is the best way to see the island. Make sure you bring your driver's license to do so (you don't need an international drivers' license). We loved this! We spent as much time in the various places as we wanted without having to be tied to a tour. You can't really do snorkeling this way, but this is how we went to see a lot of things, and just loved it.

The mangrove forest is a must. I had no idea before we came just how wonderful it would be. We felt like we were in the middle of a National Geographic episode. Make sure you bring fruit for the monkeys.

Langkawi is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the sea. For those who want to move, it is very easy to book a car and go around the island that is small. I don't think there is any places for diving or snorkeling on the island, but you can still go to Pulau Payar where there are many wonderful fish.

Stayed at  Pelangi Beach & Spa Resort - Langkawi, Malaysia.
Langkawi is a very nice island, however, as with the rest of Malaysia it does have some untidy and rundown areas albeit we have come to expect this. We hired a car to expore the island and visited the Crocodile farm which was very good. We did call to see the waterfall. Don't bother! You have to be a rock climber to get anywhere near, in fact it is dangerous!

Langkawi is ideal for a relaxing holiday. It is a beautiful island and relatively uncommercialised. We visited Langkawi in April, in low season. So their were very few other tourists, yet everything was still open. Pentai Cenang has several good restaurants (foremost of these being at the Beach Garden resort) and bars and a superb beach; clean and quiet with golden sand and clear warm water. In Pentai Cenang the Underwater World is well worth a visit and the Rice Garden was an unexpectedly interesting and enjoyable experience. There is ample opportunity for water sports and the highlight of our holiday was a day out snorkelling at a nearby coral reef; something definately not to be missed. Also, everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful.

Good choice of local restaurants within walking distance. Try Orkid - excellent seafood at ridiculously cheap prices. Not good for snorkelling as no coral and limited visibility.

We've never been to Langkawi before but traveled around the East Coast Malaysian Islands quite a bit. I found Langkawi to be much more beautiful than the East coast. There was more to see and we enjoyed an amazing eco-tour where eagles, flying foxes, monkeys, and monitor lizards were seen in their natural environment. We were also lucky enough to see a group of several dolphins that had joined us in a tributary. That was amazing! The rest of the time we spent on the beach and at the pool.

Best way to discover the Island is to take a map, to rent a car or a motorbike and to tour around. Boat-Tours also better arrange individually with local people, as all offered excursion packages were expensive, comparing to what you get for the price paid. All in all the Island was found a relaxing and silent place with not too much "Night-Life".
